Was South Dakota State defeat the worst UW loss ever?

Washington’s 92-73 loss to South Dakota State on Sunday snapped the Huskies’ 32-game winning streak against nonconference opponents at Edmundson Pavilion.
It was also the fifth most lopsided home defeat in the past 50 years against a team outside the Pac-12.
Date ………………….. Opponent …………… Score ……. Margin
Jan. 3, 1989 ……….. No. 1 Duke ……………. 87-61 ……. 26
Dec. 2, 1981 ………. Idaho ……………………. 86-61 ……. 25
Dec. 3, 2003 ………. No. 17 Gonzaga ……… 86-62 ……. 24
Dec. 11, 2001 …….. No. 25 Gonzaga ………. 67-47 ……. 20
Dec. 18, 2011 …….. South Dakota State ….. 92-73 …… 19
Losing to No. 1 Duke is no shame.Falling to ranked Gonzaga teams is also somewhat understandable and Idaho was the defending Big Sky champion when they demolished the Huskies.
Looking at the chart (above) you have to wonder if losing to South Dakota was the worse defeat for the Huskies in the modern era. It appears to be the the worse in the 10-year Lorenzo Romar era.
The South Dakota State defeat is shocking perhaps because it came without warning. The Jackrabbits (10-4) hadn’t shown they were capable of making the Huskies look so inept. And Washington (5-5) had played reasonably well despite losing four of the previous six games before Sunday.
MONDAY AFTERNOON LINKS:
— California sophomore forward Richard Solomon will miss the next two games with an injured left foot.
— Some of the problems that plague Washington (identifying roles, depth and lack of leadership) are troubling Arizona.
— ESPN.com’s Eamonn Brennan ranks the Pac-12 and has Washington at No. 6.
Jabari Brown, who quit Oregon, will transfer to Missouri.
— The Pac-12 Network has named highly experienced television veteran Leon Schweir as its Senior Vice President of Production and Operations.
