Husky Men's Basketball

The latest news and analysis on Husky men's hoops.

Is Tony Wroten Jr. doing more harm than good?

Steve Kelley asks the question: What does the Washington coach (Lorenzo Romar) do with freshman wunderkind guard Tony Wroten?
In today’s column Kelley examines Wroten’s impact with the Huskies after 10 games.
It’s an interesting situation that’s similar in some ways to the 2006-07 season Washington had with Spencer Hawes. He was arguably the best player – and a NBA lottery pick – on a UW team that finished 19-13 and didn’t advance to the postseason.
Wroten leads the Huskies (5-5) with a 16.4 scoring average.
TUESDAY MORNING LINKS:
— Washington freshman tight Austin Sefarian-Jenkins continues is still interested in playing basketball. He told Bob Condotta: “I’m talking about it, so it’s pretty serious. But all my focus right now is on playing against Baylor.”
— Without senior guard Jorge Gutierrez (food poisoning) and sophomore forward Richard Solomon (stress fracture), California still had plenty to dominate UC Santa Barbara 70-50. The Gauchos gave Washington fits last week, especially senior guard Orlando Johnson who had 24 points and 10 rebounds. The Golden Bears held him to nine points and four rebounds. Justin Cobb led Cal (10-2) with 25 points and Allen Crabbe had 19.
Anthony Brown scored 16 points to lead Stanford to a 75-56 win over Bethune-Cookman.
— During an 83-59 win over TCU, USC tallied a season high and four players scored in double figures, which is a significant achievement for a Trojans team that’s won of the lowest-scoring offenses in the nation. Maurice Jones led USC (5-7) with 25 points. The Trojans snapped a three-game losing streak.
— Four starters scored in double figures in Colorado’s 70-64 win over Cal State Bakersfield. Guard Andre Roberson led the Buffaloes (6-4) with 18 points.
— That’s two in a row for Utah. The Utes blew a 16-point lead, but held on to a 72-67 win over Portland. Josh Watkins led Utah (3-8) with a career-high 26 points and Jason Washburn had 18.
— It would have been a perfect Monday night for the Pac-12, but Arizona State lost 64-61 to Southern Mississippi on a buzzer-beating three-pointer.
