Pac-12 links, schedule and picks

It’s a Washington-free Saturday.
Still there’s a slew of college basketball games on the tube today and a few good matchups in the Pac-12. The most intriguing game features reigning conference player of the week Carlon Brown and Pac-12 newcomer Colorado taking on former Bellevue High standout Aaron Bright and Stanford.
Here’s a few links to get you started.
— It ain’t bashing if its the truth. Denver Post writer John Henderson slams the Pac-12. He quotes an NBA scout who said: “They ought to play all games at 5:45 because it is, in fact, the JV league.”
— The last time Oregon had a chance to capture a road sweep in the Pac-12, the Ducks coughed up a 76-60 defeat at Washington. Oregon is hoping for better results today at Arizona.
— Wildcats coach Sean Miller likes the fight he’s seeing recently from his young team.
— Colorado is looking to re-ignite an offense that shot just 31.9 percent from the field and managed 50 points in a seven-point defeat Thursday.
— Oregon State believes it’s played the toughest part of its Pac-12 schedule and maybe that’s true. The Beavers began the conference season with a trip to Washington before hosting the Bay Area teams and traveling to Arizona on Thursday. They managed just one win. It may be all downhill from here on out, but it remains to be seen if four losses in five games has sapped their confidence.
— Coach Craig Robinson told the Gazette Times: “The key is to stay positive.”
— OSU forward Joe Burton who left the bench during a scuffle Thursday against Arizona will not be suspended from today’s game.
— Not sure what this says about Arizona State’s recruiting strategy, but the Sun Devils took a flier on Jonathan Gilling and offered him a scholarship before anyone on the coaching staff saw him play in person. Howver, it seems to be paying off.
— Looks like Utah is getting better every time it takes the court. The Utes were destroyed by 40 points in their first Pac-12 road game. On Thursday they lost by three. Today they hope to win their first road game.
— After 26 years, Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak reunites with his Cal coach Mike Montgomery today. Krystkowiak played for Montgomery at Montana and they both left the school in 1986. The former went to the NBA and the latter went to Stanford.
TODAY’S PAC-12 SCHEDULE:
Oregon (12-5, 3-2) at Arizona (12-5, 3-1), 12:30 p.m. (CBS)

Oregon State (11-6, 1-4) at Arizona State (5-11, 1-3), 5 p.m. (ROOT)
Utah (4-12, 1-3) at California (14-4, 4-1), 7:30 p.m.
