Cal’s Richard Solomon out rest of season

California sophomore forward Richard Solomon is reportedly ruled academically ineligible for the remainder of the season. There’s been no official confirmation from the school.
The San Jose Mercury News is reporting Solomon did not accompany the team on its trip to Washington today.
Due to the snow storm in Seattle, the Golden Bears were given permission from the Pac-12 to leave a little early and they flew into town this morning.
Losing Solomon is a significant blow to Cal, which is tied on top of the Pac-12 with Stanford. The Golden Bears (15-3, 5-1) play Washington (11-6, 4-1) Thursday.
He was considered the X-factor for Cal because of his versatility. At 6-10 he was one of the tallest players in the rotation and he led the team with a 6.2 rebounds per game average. He also averaged 6.0 points, which was fifth among the Bears.
Solomon was suspended from two games in December for “conduct contrary to athletic department values,” the school said in a statement.
He also missed four games because of a foot injury.
Freshman David Kravish replaced Solomon in starting lineup and averages 5.7 points and 5.6 rebounds.
Coach Mike Montgomery normally uses a seven-man rotation and Solomon was a major contributor off the bench.
The short-handed Bears should get a lift from junior guard Brandon Smith, who has been cleared to play Thursday after missing the past three games with a concussion.
