Video: Washington highlights over Arizona

Just landed at Sea-Tac Airport, checked my messages and there’s an email from Patrick Blair with highlights (above) from last night’s game. Much appreciated.
Didn’t realize it at the time, but good move by coach Lorenzo Romar to call timeout after C.J. Wilcox made the first free throw on Washington’s final possession. He instructed the Huskies how he wanted them to defend the last play.
After the game, Romar told me he anticipated Arizona would set a screen and wanted the Huskies to switch everything. That’s exactly what happened.
Tony Wroten Jr. and Wilcox were tracking Josiah Turner as he raced down the floor with 5.3 seconds left. He got a screen from Solomon Hill, which picked off Wilcox. Turner cut sharply to his left to elude Terrence Ross and had a clear s path to the basket.
However, Wroten chased him down and swatted his layup off the glass. It looked to be a little bit of contact, but it was minimal and you don’t make that call at the time of the game.
Conversely, the blocking call on Turner that sent Wilcox to the line was proper even though the fans inside the arena didn’t think so. it looked as if it could go either way from where I was sitting, but the replay shows Turner was sliding and Wilcox was trying to avoid him.
Credit Gaddy for not calling a timeout and quickly getting the ball to Wilcox. It looked as if Ross was signaling for a T and wanted to stop the action. The situation was similar to the Marquette finish when Desmond Simmons threw an inbound pass to Gaddy, who missed a desperate shot at the buzzer.
Romar said he wasn’t going to call a timeout and would have let the situation play out. Not sure why Arizona had three players in the back court or why Turner tried to draw a charge. Ideally you’d want to force a contested jump shot.
Wilcox said he was going to attack the rim just as he did several times in the game. Chances are he would have gotten there because Arizona only had two players defending the basket.
