Colorado wins Pac-12 Tournament title

Colorado entered the Pac-12 reeling after losing three of its final four regular-season games. The Buffaloes’ late-season pratfall caused it to lose a first-round tournament bye.
Turns out they didn’t need the rest.
Colorado became the first team to win four games in four days, capping a magnificent week and its inaugural Pac-12 season with a 53-51 victory over Arizona in the tournament championship game.
The Buffaloes (23-11) capture the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament while everyone else in the league will wait anxiously during Selection Sunday to see if they’ll receive an invitation to the Big Dance.
Freshman Spencer Dinwiddie scored 14 points and Carlon Brown added 13.
The Associated Press reports: “The Buffs lack any tradition in their new conference, but they didn’t lack fans. Their student section, flown in by the school, was loud all week, and they proudly displayed a homemade sign reading Welcome to Coors Event Center West.”
Brown was voted the tournament’s most outstanding player.
The all-tournament team includes: Brown, Colorado’s Andre Roberson, Arizona’s Kyle Fogg, Solomon Hill and Jesse Perry and Oregon State’s Jared Cunningham. It’s a six-man team. Strange for sure.
Roberson set the record for most rebounds in the tournament with 41. The mark was held by Washington big man Phil Zevenbergen who had 37 in 1987. However, Zevenbergen did it in three games while Robertson had four.
Following the game, ESPN bracket guru Joe Lunardi (video, below) said during a TV interview he believes California is the only Pac-12 team that will an at-large berth.
When asked about Washington, he said: “There wasn’t a true round robin in the Pac-12 so that means there was never a return game with Cal. They (Cal) finished a game behind Washington, but it doesn’t matter because they didn’t play a second time. And Cal won the only meeting. Where? In Seattle. I got to take Cal.”
