Texas-Arlington live game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 82-72.
DAGGER — Gant dropped a three-pointer from the corner. UW 66-67, 2:41.
PULLING AWAY? — UW 73-65, 4:47.
N’DIAYE IS BACK — The big fella is back and he made an immediate impact. He got Kevin Butler to loose the ball and drew a foul. UW 71-56, 5:56.
ZONE BUSTERS — The Huskies went to a zone and UTA has hit two three-pointers. UW 68-65, 6:40.
NIP AND TUCK — UW 60-59, 9:16.
SOFTY IN THE HOUSE — Dave Mahler is behind me and let’s just say he’s passionate about the Huskies and not too happy with the refs. Got to admit, it was a very questionable blocking charge on Austin Seferian-Jenkins. UW 56-53, 11:25.
ONE AND ONE — UTA has eight team fouls. The Huskies are going to the line on every foul. UW 54-51, 12:08.
MOMENTUM TURNING — The crowd is in it now. Wroten stripped Cameron Catlett, which led to a Wilcox dunk. On the next possession, Wilcox stripepd Reves which led to a fast break attempt. UW 53-46, 13:39.
TROUBLE TIME — N’Diaye picked up his fourth foul on a controversial call. Looked clean to everyone inside Hec Ed except the ref who made the call. Romar just held his hands behind his head and stared at the official. UW 48-44, 15:35.
ANXIOUS MOMENTS — Plenty of blank stares on the Husky bench. Wroten is the only one clapping and encouraging teammates on the floor. UW 45-44, 15:56.
SECOND HALF — N’Diaye picked up his third foul. Romar doesn’t like it. He’s upset with the official. N’Diaye is staying in. UTA 42-41, 18:01.
NIT UPDATE — If the Huskies win, they’ll face No. 4 Northwestern who beat No. 5 Akron 76-74. Oregon leads 67-52 midway in the second half.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Dangerous game for Washington. The Huskies are playing well offensively, but they’re giving this game away on the defensive end. The problem is the initial defense. They can’t keep the Mavericks in front of them. Once UTA gets in the lane, then everything starts to break down. The Huskies are doing a good job of rotating, but then they’re out of position for the rebound. UTA has killed UW on the glass 25-10. The Mavs have 12 second-chance points and they’ve scored 22 points in the paint.
Otherwise Washington is doing a decent job.
Texas Arlington is shooting 36.4 percent from the field and UW is 50 percent shooting.
After a slow start, Ross scored 11 points during a brilliant spurt late in the first half. No one else for UW has more than five points. Reed has 10 points for UTA.
This is absolutely the last position the Huskies wanted to be in. The Mavs believe they can win. Washington doesn’t want to allow them to hang around and give them a chance to steal it at the end, but that’s exactly what’s happening.
The first seven minutes in the second half will be critical.
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.
HALFTIME — UW 37-37.

SO GOOD, SO BAD — The Huskies are shooting 56.5 percent, but they’re down 18-9 in rebounding. UW 34-34, 1:15.
ROSS ON THE BENCH — The Huskies offense has nowhere to go without Ross. They had three bad possessions. Ross is back in. UW 34-34, 2:23.
NIT UPDATE — Oregon is crushing LSU 52-37 early in the second half. Northwestern leads Akron 73-70 with about two minutes left.
MAMMA, THERE GOES THAT MAN AGAIN — Had to steal that line from Mark Jackson. Gaddy threw a pass at the rim and Ross flushed it for a dunk. On UW’s next possession, Wroten whipped a no-look pass to Desmond Simmons for a layup. UW 34-28, 3:58.
ROSS AGAIN. — Good analogy. ESPNU analyst Tim McCormick said Ross reminds him of Nick Young who starred at USC. Ross has scored again. He has scored UW’s last nine points. UW 30-24, 5:27.
ROSS TAKING OVER — He’s scored on the last three possessions. He’s even taken a charge. UW 28-24, 6::26.
SCHREMPF IN THE HOUSE — Detleft Schrempf just walked in. The Huskies are shooting 60 percent from the field. Ross, Wilcox and Gaddy with five points. UW 25, 24, 7:25.
ROSS AGAIN — On the next possession, Ross drained a long jumper. UW 25-23, 7:27.
FIRST BASKET — Ross just sank his first basket on a beautiful baseline drive and layup. He has two points. He needs to get going. UW 23-21, 8:07.
WROTEN TO THE LINE — Wroten made the first, missed the second. UW 21-21, 8:46.
FOUR GUARDS — UW goes with Wroten, Wilcox, Gaddy, Ross and N’Diaye. N’Diaye just got stripped below the rim. Gaddy is telling him he needs to go up strong with both hands. UW 20-19, 9:25
YANKED — Coach Lorenzo Romar benched Wroten because he didn’t box out on a rebound. The freshman is back in the game. UW 16-14, 11:43.
ZONE BUSTER — The Mavs came out in a 1-1-3 zone and Wilcox drained a three-pointer from the corner. UW 14-12, 12:25.
FOUL TROUBLE — Reves has two fouls. He’s out of the game. UW 11-10, 13:08.
WILCOX MOVING SLOW — Wilcox landed hard after being fouled. Not sure if his hip his hurting him or now. UTA 10-8, 13:35.
SLOW START — The Huskies are shooting 2 of 7 from the field. They’re just throwing up shots and not working the offense. They’re shooting early in the shot clock and look a little too loose and carefree. They need to make the Mavs move a little bit. Pass the ball at least once or twice. Try to go inside. Gaddy has to be aggressive against White-Miller. Don’t think the 5-9 guard can keep 6-3 Gaddy out of the lane. He already has one foul. Gaddy needs to get another foul on him and make him real passive. UTA 8-4, 15:39.
FIRST SUB — C.J. Wilcox is in for Ross, who is 0 for 2 shooting. UTA 8-4, 16:01.
QUICK SHOTS — The Huskies are taking a lot of quick shots. UTA 7-4, 16:11.
MATCHUPS — White-Miller has Gaddy. UTA 5-2, 17:27.
TRADING PLACES — Brendan Sherrer plays the role of bull in the middle during the pre-game huddle rather than Martin Breunig.
STARTING LINEUPS — No change for UW: Abdul Gaddy, Tony Wroten Jr., Terrence Ross, Darnell Gant and Aziz N’Diaye.
UTA: F Bo Ingram, F Kevin Butler, C Jordan Reves, G Shaquille White-Miller and G LaMarcus Reed III.
NIT UPDATE — Northwerstern 42-34 at halftime. Oregon 29-16 midway through first half.
JARREAU HURTING — Freshman forward Jernard Jarreau, who is redshirting this season, has his left foot in a walking boot.
BODY LANGUAGE — Tough to get a read on the Huskies. There’s a lot of stone-faced expressions on the floor. Reminds me of the game at USC when UW went out and just handled it’s business with cold efficiency.
NIT UPDATE — Northwestern leads Akron 35-23 in the first half. Oregon trails LSU 8-3.
LATE-ARRIVING CROWD — We’re about 30 minutes from the start and there’s maybe 1,000 people here. We’ll see who shows up.
ON THE COURT — Both teams are on the court and going through warm-up drills.
TICKET UPDATE — There were about 2,000 tickets sold as of this afternoon. The Huskies were expecting a big walk-up tonight. Not sure how much the weather will play a role in the attendance. There’s been snow and hail, but it was clear and sunny when I left the house.
