Minnesota big man’s status uncertain

The NIT coaches will meet with the media in about an hour and perhaps we’ll learn more about the status of Minnesota senior center Ralph Sampson III, who tweaked his knee and missed the past five games.
Sampson reportedly returned to practice last week and was slated to play in the NIT opener, but was held out.
After the game, Coach Tubby Smith told reporters: “He was just not able to explode,” Smith said. “I wanted to be real careful with him.”
The 6-11, 230-pound post player obviously gives the Golden Gophers more size and experience if he’s available.
