Minnesota live game thread

IT’S OVER — Minnesota wins 68-67 in overtime.
OVERTIME — The Huskies forced a turnover and Wilcox scored with 16.3 seconds. Wroten played good defense on Andre Hollins and may have touched his elbow to force an errant mid-range jumper on the other end. With time expiring and no timeouts, the Huskies pushed the ball and Wroten threw up a long three-pointer the rimmed out. UW 61-61.
DOWN TWO — UM 61-59, 21.8.
SMART MOVE — Down four, Gaddy did the wise thing and drove to the rim where was fouled. He’s got two FTs coming. UM 61-57, 22.8.
DOWN THREE — Andre Hollins made the first of two free throws. He has another one left. UM 60-57, 28.9.
THIS COULD BE A LONG 91 SECONDS — UM 59-54, 1:31.
BIG BASKET — Gant forced Williams into a missed shot and Wilcox drained a jumper on the other end. The play is under review. UM 57-53, 1:46.
STILL TIME FOR A COMEBACK — Gaddy drained a mid-range jumper. Romar called timeout. If the Huskies are going to do this, then they’ll do it with the four-guard lineup. UM 57-51, 2:21.
WOW — Another questionable call goes against the Huskies. This time Gant appeared to have been fouled on a layup, but the refs called an offensive foul. UM 55-47, 4:03.
NOT DEAD YET — Gant drained a long jumper. The Huskies have life. UM 53-47, 5:24.
FOUL TROUBLE — On the same possession, Wilcox picked up his fourth foul on a layup. UM 53-45, 5:49.
GREAT HUSTLE — Gaddy and Simmons dove on the floor to recover an offensive rebound. Could be the play of the game if UW comes back to win. UM 53-45, 6:12.
NEEDING A MIRACLE — Maybe not a miracle, but the Huskies need help to get back into this one. They’re out of sync once again offensively and time is running out. UW looked as if it had momentum there for awhile, but Williams is giving more energy and effort. UM 53-42, 7:58.
THAT HURT — The Huskies had something going before Austin Hollins drained a three-pointers. UM 51-41, 9:31.
TIRED — Ross looks tired. He just got picked in the open court and on the other end picked up his third foul. Not a good look for the Huskies. UM 45-37, 11:45.
SUB — Wroten, who some have said has the flu, is in for Gaddy. UM 43-34, 13:59.
PLAYING BETTER — The Huskies have a big hill to climb, but at least they’re playing better than they did in the first half. Looks as if they’re engaged again. They’re getting offensive rebounds. We’ll see if this last when the subs come in. Wilcox has given UW a spark. Gant is rebounding and Gaddy is being effective while probing the defense. UM 40-32, 15:53.
SPURT? — Wilcox scored on back-to-back long jumpers. UM 40-30, 16:58.
CHANTS — The small gathering of UW fans are chanting: “Let’s go Huskies!” UM 38-28, 18:00.
SECOND HALF — Wilcox starting in place of Wroten.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Not sure why Washington came out so flat. It’s one of their worst first-half performances of the season.
Maybe the Huskies thought the NIT title game was last Tuesday when they beat Oregon in an emotional game. Whatever the reason, this game looks a lot like their last game at MSG when they started poorly against Duke.
The Huskies are getting pushed around defensively and they’re not staying with the Minnesota guards on the other end.
The Gophers are shooting 51.6 percent from the field while UW is 10 of 30 from the field (.333 percent).
Ross is the only UW player who looks as if he’s ready to play. He’s 5 of 10 for a game-high 14 points. Everyone else is 5 of 20 for 12 points.
Wroten is able to get to the rim, but he’s unable to finish in traffic and is 2 of 9 for four points. Minnesota is not allowing Wilcox to get a good look and he’s 0 for 1. He’s got to be more aggressive offensively. Gant has done a nice job on the offensive end. He got a basket on a putback layup and drained a three-pointer as the first half expired.
Still Washington’s biggest concern is slowing down Minnesota. Williams has 12 points, the Hollins brothers each have seven and Andre Ingram has six off the bench.
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.
HALFTIME — UM 38-26,

STRANGE COMBINATION — Simmons dished to ASJ on for a fast break layup. You’ll probably never see that again. UM 33-23, 1:18.
STAY IN FRONT — The Huskies have to keep the Gophers in front of them. Just don’t see Minnesota consistently making contested jumpers. Instead, Washington is being picked and getting beaten on back-door cuts. UM 33-21, 2:06.
MORE BAD DEFENSE — Wroten went for a wrap-around steal and whiffed, which forced ASJ to leave his man and the Gophers got another dunk. UM 33-21, 2:14.
ROSS STANDS ALONE — Ross is 4 of 8 from the field and has 12 points. Everyone else is 3 of 14 and has seven. Rodney Williams leads the Gophers with 10. UM 25-19, 5:58.
CAN’T TEACH THAT — Wroten darted into the lane, drew two defenders, spun and leaped in the air before delivering a no-look pass to Gant beneath the rim. Gant hesitated and drew a foul rather than finishing with a dunk or a layup. He’s going to shoot free throws. UM 25-18, 5:58.
TOO MANY DUNKS — The Huskies have surrendered at least two dunks and four layups. That’s not going to cut it. Wroten whiffed on a defensive assignment. N’Diaye improperly played a pick and roll. And the Gophers have beaten the Huskies in transition. UM 22-15, 7:07.
EARLY FOUL TROUBLE — That’s two fouls on Gaddy. He’s out. UM 16-13, 8:46.
THIRD SUB — Austin Seferian-Jenkins is in for N’Diaye. UM 13-11, 10:56.
ANYONE ELSE? — There’s Ross and little else for the Huskies on the offensive end. He has seven points. UW 11-11, 12:26.
FIRST SUBS — C.J. Wilcox is in for Gaddy and Desmond Simmons has replaced Gant. UM 9-7, 14:11.
SLOW PACE — Can’t think Lorenzo Romar wants to play at this pace. The Huskies aren’t getting good looks. They’re doing great on the defensive end. UM 5-2, 15:43.
DROUGHT OVER — On the next possession, Ross sank a beautiful short jumper after a dribble drive and spin in the paint. UM 5-2, 16:35.
DROUGHT — The Huskies still have not scored. UM 2-0, 17:28.
QUIET — You can here a pin drop. Most of the UMass fans went home. UM 2-0, 18:17.
QUESTIONABLE — Minnesota center Ralph Sampson III (knee sprain) is not starting, but he’s dressed in shorts and could play.
STARTING LINEUPS — NO change for UW: G Tony Wroten, G Abdul Gaddy, G Terrence Ross, F Darnell Gant and C Aziz N’Diaye.
Minnesota: F Rodney Williams, G Joe Coleman, C Elliott Eliason, G Austin Hollins and G Andre Hollins.
GOOD CHAT — Thanks to everyone who participated in the pre-game chat. You can read the transcript. Had a lot of fun.
