UCLA signs five-star forward from Georgia

UCLA landed Tony Parker, which gives the Bruins perhaps the best recruiting class in the nation and arguably the most heralded collection of incoming freshmen in coach Ben Howland’s regime.
Parker, a consensus five-star prospect from Lithonia, Ga., is a 6-9, 280-pound center who was also considering Ohio State, Duke and Georgia.
UCLA also nabbed shooting guard Shabazz Muhammad and small foward Kyle Anderson, both five-star recruits rated among the top five in the nation by ESPN, Rivals and Scout. Small forward Jordan Adams, who is considered a four-star prospect, also signed with the Bruins.
It will be interesting to see how Howland incorporates Parker into a front line that includes sophomore center Joshua Smith and sophomore forwards David and Travis Wear.
UCLA finished 19-14 last season and failed to receive a postseason invitation, however, the Bruins will likely be among the favorites to win the Pac-12 title next season.
UCLA assistant coach Korey McCray was Parker’s AAU coach with the Atlanta Celtics before taking the Bruins job last summer. Adams was also a member of the Celtics team.
Bruins assistant Phil Mathews and Anderson are credited for recruiting Muhammad.
