Lunardi: UW just misses NCAA tourney again

August is an odd time for NCAA tournament debates.
Nonetheless ESPN bracket guru Joe Lunardi released his first 2013 tourney projections which is favorable to the Pac-12 and not so kind to Washington.
Lunardi projects UCLA will capture a No. 1 seed in the West, which would be a first for the Bruins and the conference since 2008 when they captured the top seed.
According to Lunardi, Arizona will receive the No. 6 seed.
Picking UCLA and Arizona to lead the Pac-12 is no surprise. However, Lunardi seemingly goes out on a limb when he projects California and Oregon will be among the last four teams included into the tournament.
He believes Cal will appear in the No. 12 seed play-in game and has the Ducks in the No. 13 seed play-in game.
That’s an optimistic scenario for both teams considering other Pac-12 observers (including myself) believe Cal would be fortunate to finish in the upper half of the conference and Oregon (at least on paper) looks to be among the four bottom teams in the league.
Lunardi projects Washington will just miss the cut for the second straight year. He has the Huskies as the fifth team on the wrong side of the bubble.
