Albany live game thread

IT’S OVER — In a shocker, Albany upsets Washington 63-62.
ALMOST OVER — UW leads 62-61 with 7.6 left.
GADDY — Gaddy scored on a putback. UW 62-61.
UH-OH — Peter Hooley big three-pointer from the corner. Washington has the ball. Albany 61-60, 28.8 seconds.
BIG STEAL — Andrews came up with a steal and was fouled. He sank both FTs. UW 60-58, 1:00.
ALL SQUARE — Wilcox drains a three-pointers. UW 58-58, 1:22.
WHO TAKES OVER? — Romar said before the season he’s curious to see who will take over the final minutes in a close game. Well, here we are. Albany 54-53, 4:30.
CAN’T STOP BLACK — The Huskies don’t have anyone who can keep Black in front of them. He’s blown past Andrews several times and has hit the last seven points for Albany. UW 53-52, 5:20.
CAPTAIN — With the shot clock under five and no one seeming to realize it, Gaddy calmly drained a NBA-range three-pointer. This is what I mean when I say it’s his game to win or lose. UW 48-43, 9:46.
STILL ANYONE’S GAME — UW leads 45-40 with 11:59 left. The Huskies have done a much better job on Black who has two points this half. Iati is still getting free. Feels like Washington can squeeze this one out if it is smart.
ATTENDANCE — Curious to see what the announced crowd is going to be. I’m guessing between 5,000-6,000 are here. But I think officials take into account season-ticket holders who I’m assuming had better things to do tonight. UW 40-35, 15,21.
MOMENTUM SWITCH — Gaddy lofted a lob to Wilcox, who flushed a two-hand jam in what is the play of the season so far. On the next possession, Gaddy flubbed a twoo-hand alley-oop dunk. The Huskies are on an 8-0 run. The crowd is in it now. UW 40-35, 15:55.
SECOND HALF — Simmons and Andrews start the second half. Jarreau is on the bench, Suggs in the locker room.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Someone asked me on the pre-game live chat if Gaddy can carry the team. Well, we may find out tonight. He’s the best option for the Huskies. Wilcox is struggling. He’s 1 for 8 from the floor and it remains to be seen if he has a Plan B when his jumper isn’t falling. Suggs is out of the game. Andrews may not be ready to assume a starring role. Same can be said for Stewart, Simmons and Breunig.
N’Diaye can only do so much and he’s done a lot so far. He’s got a game-high tying 12 points and six rebounds.
This looks like Gaddy’s game to win or lose. He has a size advantage and he’s being aggressive driving to the hole where he puts up his running floater. He can get that shot almost any time he wants. Gaddy is 4 of 7 in 16 minutes. I don’t think he should leave the floor in the second half. He’s too invaluable. He’s not afraid of the moment and he’ll have to lead the young through this game.
Not sure if everyone has recovered from losing Suggs.
And it’s not as if the Huskies are playing poorly. They have more rebounds (22-16) and they’ve held Albany to 36.0 percent shooting. But UW has eight turnovers and it is 0 for 5 on three-pointers, which is largely due to Wilcox (0 for 3).
This game could change in a hurry. Albany is getting points from two people, Iati who has 12 and Black 11. Everyone else has eight combined.
The Huskies need to re-focus and make sure someone other than Iati and Black takes shots. Then Gaddy and N’Diaye will need to go to work on the offensive end where UW has major advantages.
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.
HALFTIME — Albany 31-27.

GUESS WHO’S BACK? — With a bandage over his right eye, Simmons returns. Albany 26-23, 2:13.
FOUL TROUBLE — Low on bodies, the Huskies need to be careful not to take too many risks defensively. Jarreau has three fouls. Gaddy and N’Diaye have two. UW 21-19, 4:19.
DROUGHT BUSTER — Wilcox makes his first basket after missing the first six. The Huskies have also taken at least four charges. UW 15-13, 6:19.
WROTE TOO SOON — Breunig checks in. UW 13-13, 8:37.
NO BREUNIG — Despite the loss of two players, Martin Breunig remains cemented on the bench. UW 13-13, 8:39.
CUT — Desmond Simmons has to leave the court after being cut above his right eye. Depth is being tested tonight. UW 13-13, 9:28.
OFF AND ON — Wilcox is 0 for 4. He’s had some good looks and it’s just not falling for him right now. Meanwhile N’Diaye has six points and he’s 3 of 4 from the field. He’s also patrolling the paint. The official box says he has one block, but I count two. UW 11-11, 11:59.
OUT — A UW spokesperson said Suggs has a concussion and won’t return tonight. I’m guessing he’s doubtful for Saturday’s game. But then that’s speculation at this point. UW 11-11, 13:11.
STUNNED — Anytime a player goes down the way Suggs did, others are stunned. The Huskies are little tentative. Lorenzo Romar called timeout probably to snap them out of it. UW 6-5, 15:30.
SUGGS INJURED — Suggs took an inadvertent elbow from Black. It looks serious. He’s out of the game. Andrew Andrews is in. Albany 5-4, 16:07.
LOW TURNOUT — There’s maybe 3,000 people here. Wonder if the fans are voicing
NICE REBOUND — Suggs collected an offensive rebound on the second possession, which may be a good sign.
STARTING LINEUPS — No change for UW: Abdul Gaddy, Scott Suggs, C.J. Wilcox, Jernard Jarreau and Aziz N’Diaye.
Albany: G Mike Black, G Jacob Iati, F Jayson Guerrier, F Blake Metcalf, F John Puk.
LIVE CHAT — Thanks to everyone who participated in the pre-game live chat. We’ll try and host that before games this season.
