Nevada live game thread

IT’S OVER — Nevada wins 76-73.

NEED A STOP — After a Wilcox dunk, UW trails 73-70 with 1:28 left.

LEAD SHORT-LIVED — Suggs drained a three-pointer to put UW up 61-60, but Burton capped a three-point play on the other end. Nevada 63-61, 5:02.

GADDY’S SIGNATURE MOMENT — We’ve waited 3 1/2 years, but Gaddy may have made the best play in his UW career. He stole a pass from Burton then raced down court and crammed it on the Nevada guard to erase an 18-point deficit. It was an amazing play. The score was tied 55-55, but Nevada got a three-point play on the next possession and is up 58-55 wiht 6:46 left.

FUN GAME — It took awhile, but this is a really fun game. The atmosphere is crazy. N’Diaye missed a layup that would have cut UW’s deficit to two. Nevada 55-51, 8:53.

BIG PLAY — Kemp secured a rebound and threw the ball down court to Gaddy who flushed a dunk and was undercut by Burton. Gaddy fell awkwardly and wanted a foul. The crowd went nuts. UW is on a 10-0 run. Nevada 53-45, 11:23.

MINI -RUN — Nevada 53-43, 11:55.

UPSET ALERT — Nevada 53-35, 14:23.

FLUSH THIS — Burton picked off a Gaddy pass at the top of the key and raced in forĀ  a gorgeous dunk. Romar called timeout. Nevada 48-32, 15:44.

BYE, BYE HIGH-POST — Haven’t seen much of the high-post offense this half. Looks like the Huskies are going with the motion offense. The Wolf Pack are using some zone, which would make it difficult to run the high post. Nevada 46-32, 16:02.

SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams. On the second possession, Gaddy threw the ball away and it led to a Story layup. Nevada 36-28, 19:13.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Losing Gaddy and Andrews has hindered Washington’s offense. The Huskies have difficulty getting the ball up the court against Nevada’s token pressure. They’ve committed nine turnovers that have led to 12 points. Seven Huskies have at least one turnover.

Gaddy has three fouls and he’ll have to be careful in the second half. He’s struggling to find a right defensive matchup, but UW needs him to direct the offense and the ball into the hands of the shooters.

However, it would help if the shooters were more accurate. The Huskies are 10 of 31 from the field. Suggs is 3 of 10, Wilcox 2 of 6 and Simmons is 0 for 5.

Burton has 10 points on 3-for-5 shooting. UW’s inability to contain him has put it in foul trouble. He’s also has two assists.

The Huskies have two assists, both from Stewart.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — Nevada 34-26.

MINI-RUN — The Huskies were down 18-11, but they’re on a 8-4 run thanks to Wilcox who hit a three-pointer and Suggs’ layup. The Wolf Pack called timeout. Nevada 22-19, 4:41.

SEASON DEBUT — Kemp is on the floor. He looks slim. Showing no signs of the knee injury. Nevada 16-8, 7:55.

FOUL TROUBLE — Gaddy picked up his third foul. He’s on the bench. Suggs is taking over directing the offense. Sterling is also on the floor with Wilcox, N’Diaye and Simmons. Nevada 16-8, 9:48.

SLOW START — Lots of changes in personnel – still no Kemp – but the Huskies have gotten off to another slow start. The offense just isn’t working. They’ve made 3 of 15 shots have committed five turnovers. Gaddy is 2 for 4 while Wilcox is 0 for 3. Nevada 14-8, 10:57.

SUBS — Stewart, Jernard Jarreau and Quinn Sterling are in. Stewart forced a turnover. Suggs is on the bench and the Wolf Pack switched to a zone.

MISSING ANDREWS — Without Andrews, Gaddy is the primary ball handler. He may have to play heavy minutes. Hikeem Stewart is primarily a shooting guard who can run the point if needed. Nevada 8-6, 14:04.

SWITCH — On the next trip, Romar put Wilcox on Burton, Suggs on Story and assigned Gaddy to Burris. It worked. Burris tried to post Gaddy, but missed a short jumper. Nevada 8-5, 15:57.

MISSING ANDREWS — Burton sees a mismatch against Gaddy and he’s driving hard to the basket. He’s done it on three straight possessions, either scoring a layup or drawing a foul. Nevada 8-3, 16:54.

MATCHUPS — Gaddy has Burton, Wilcox is on Story, Simmons takes Panzer, Suggs has Burris and N’Diaye is on Huff. Nevada 4-1, 17:35.

STARTING LINEUPS — UW: G Abdul Gaddy, G C.J. Wilcox, G Scott Suggs, F Desmond Simmons and C Aziz N’Diaye.

Nevada: F Kevin Panzer, F Cole Huff, G Jordan Burris, G Malik Story and G Deonte Burton.

ANDREWS OUT — Andrew Andrews will miss tonight’s game and possibly a couple of more after suffering a sprained right ankle in practice. He stepped on somebody’s foot and is now walking around on crutches with his foot in a boot.

SIMMONS TO START? — Wondering if Desmond Simmons will return to the starting lineup now that Kemp is back in the rotation. Coach Lorenzo Romar said he liked Simmons giving energy off the bench, but maybe Kemp will fill that role. No sense in having a guy that can get 18 rebounds start the game on the bench. Besides UW needs to do something to counter its recent string of slow starts.

SUGGS, KEMP BACK — Just got word that Scott Suggs and Shawn Kemp Jr. are playing. For Suggs, he’s returning from a three-game layoff due to plantar fasciitis. Kemp is making his season debut after missing seven game because of a torn right patella tendon.

PRE-GAME CHAT — Hey folks, we’re still working out the kinks on the new blog. Sorry for abandoning the pre-game live chat. It just wasn’t working. We’ll get it worked out before the Seattle U. game.
