Seattle University live game thread

IT’S OVER — Washington wins 87-74. Suggs scores a game-high 24 points on 7-for-11 shooting.

SCARY MOMENT — Stewart goes down and it looks as if he turned his ankle. He was helped off the floor. Freshman Quinn Sterling is in. UW 85-68, 1:45.

ALMOST OVER — Fans wearing red and purple are heading for the exits. If the press doesn’t work, the Redhawks are trapping to get the ball out of Gaddy’s hands. That’s not working very well. UW 83-63, 3:58.

CRAMPING — Suggs is out of the game. It’s believed he’s cramping. He has a career-high 20 points. UW 74-55, 8:12.

FLAGRANT — Sunderhaus picked up a flagrant foul when he fouled Wilcox on a fastbreak. Wilcox made 1 of 2. UW 72-54, 9:58.

CONFIDENT — Stewart is playing with more confidence than ever before. Maybe it’s the sight of a familiar opponent. Whatever the reason, he’s not being gun shy. He’s converted all three of his shots for a career-high six points. UW 64-47, 11:51.

GREAT PLAYS — Simmons made a steal while falling out of bounds. Seconds later, he scored on a layup despite being fouled. He made the ensuing free throw to convert the three-point play. UW 62-41, 13:26.

FOUL TROUBLE — Trent has four fouls. He’s been out for awhile. UW 52-38, 15:42.

HALFTIME ADJUSTMENT — The Redhawks made an adjustment in how they’re pressing. In the first half, UW beat it by bouncing a pass to the man in the middle and he dribbled up for an easy basket. SU is forcing UW to make a cross-court pass. The Redhawks are also being very aggressive. They have three fouls already. UW 51-38, 16:36.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED? — We have a game again. SU’s press is starting to pay dividends. The Huskies have committed two turnovers that have led to baskets. SU has also scored on every possession this half. UW 51-38, 17:38.

SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Great half for Washington. Not the best of the season, but pretty darn close. It scored 49 points against Seton Hall. The Huskies had no problems with SU’s full-court press that didn’t forced just one turnover by my unofficial count. UW has four TOs, but three were committed in the half court. When SU pressed, it led to many easy baskets for UW. Especially for N’Diaye who has a game-high 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting. He also has five rebounds.

Suggs has 10 points and Wilcox and Simmons each have seven. Simmons also has seven rebounds.

Not sure if the Huskies are playing great defense or the Redhawks are inept offensively. SU is shooting 35.5 percent from the field (11 of 31) and 3 of 9 on three-pointers. SU has also made just 2 of 12 free throws when no one is guarding them. And the Redhawks have committed nine turnovers.

Meanwhile, UW is 18 of 28 (64.3 percent) from the field, 2 of 3 on three-pointers and 11 of 12 (91.7 percent) at the line.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

NOT-SO GREAT FINISH — The Huskies were outscored 8-3 to end the half. UW leads 49-27.

BAD SHOOTING — Even when the Huskies aren’t guarding them, the Redhawks can’t shoot straight. They’re 1 of 9 at the line. UW 46-22, 1:30.

GOOD D — SU has more turnovers (nine) than field goals (eight). UW 46-21 2:17.

BOAT RACE — Redhawks are shooting 32 percent (8 of 25) from the field. They’ve scored five points in the last nine minutes. UW 42-19, 3:26.

20-PLUS — UW 38-16, 5:49.

DOUBLED UP — Never thought I’d type “N’Diaye threw a nifty pass for Stewart who drained a mid-range jumper.” But that’s what type of night it is for the Huskies. Everything is working. UW 32-16, 7:56.

HIGHLY EFFICIENT — By my unofficial count, the Huskies have scored on 11 of 13 possessions. They’re shooting 11 of 16 from the floor. UW 23-14, 9:58.

ANOTHER SUB — Jernard Jarreau is in for Simmons. UW 19-14, 12:15.

FIRST SUBS — Hikeem Stewart and Shawn Kemp Jr. are in for Wilcox and N’Diaye. UW 17-9, 13:33.

GOOD CROWD — The place is way more than half full. I’d say it’s about 80 percent capacity and folks are still coming in. We won’t get a sellout, but maybe something close. UW 14-9, 13:53.

PRESS — After baskets, the Redhawks are pressing. But it’s not working. The Huskies (mainly Gaddy) is making the right passes and they’re getting easy baskets. They’ve got three layups, a dunk and a short jumper. SU coach Cameron Dollar called timeout. UW 14-9, 14:12.

MATCHUPS — Suggs is on Rasmussen, Wilox has Obassi, Gaddy Pickett, N’Diaye is on Saunderhaus and Simmons is on Trent. Suggs nabbed a steal and scored on a fastbreak. UW 4-0, 18:15.

DRESS CODE — The Redhawks are wearing white for the first time in the Cameron Dollar era. Their normal home jerseys are grey.

LATE-ARRIVING CROWD — SU folks were hoping for a high turnout in the range of 7,000 or so. However, I’d guess this place is about at 40 percent capacity with tip-off about 10 minutes away. The upper deck at KeyArena is curtained off. The lower bowl seats 9,686.

STARTING LINEUPS — UW: G Abdul Gaddy, G C.J. Wilcox, G Scott Suggs, F Desmond Simmons and C Aziz N’Diaye.

SU: G Prince Obassi, G D’Vonne Pickett Jr., F Chad Rasmussen, F Clarence Trent and F Deshaun Sunderhaus.

OUT — Just got word that Andrew Andrews is officially out for tonight’s game. He’s sitting on the bench in warmups, but he’s not doing much other than chatting with courtside spectators.

NO PRE-GAME CHAT — Sorry folks but had to bag the pre-game chat for a couple of reasons. First the wireless inside KeyArena is very slow. I’ll update this tread as quickly as possible, but we’ll just have to see how it goes.
