No hoops for Austin Seferian-Jenkins
BREAKING: 3:13 p.m.
Washington announced sophomore Austin Seferian-Jenkins will not return to the basketball team.
Last season the 6-6, 260-pound sophomore forward appeared in 17 games and UW posted a 13-4 record. He played at least 15 minutes in three games and averaged 7.2 minutes, 1.1 points and 2.1 rebounds. Seferian-Jenkins found a spot in the rotation and gave the Huskies a toughness they had been missing.
Seferian-Jenkins is a star tight end on the football team.
In a story on UW’s website, Seferian-Jenkins said: “I just need to focus on school and get (rested). I don’t feel like I’d be to help the basketball team much right now.”
Last season the Huskies needed ASJ’s physicality and tough-minded demeanor off the bench. However, this season sophomore forward Shawn Kemp Jr. has been able fill that role when he’s been healthy. He’s averaging 4.8 points and 2.3 rebounds.
