Amid the Shovegate controversy, California’s Allen Crabbe won the Pac-12 Player of Week award for the second straight week.
The junior guard averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.0 assists to lead the Golden Bears in a pair of wins that improved them to 16-9 and tied for fourth in the conference at 8-5.
In a controversial 76-68 win over USC, Crabbe rebounded from a sluggish first half thanks to a physical jarring from coach Mike Montgomery who shoved him in the chest during a timeout. The Pac-12 reprimanded Montgomery for his actions, while Crabbe supported his coach publicly.
After the sideline dustup, Crabbe scored 14 points to lead Cal on a decisive 29-14 run. He finished with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including a season-high 5 for 11 on three-pointers. He added a season-high 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and a career-best six steals.
Crabbe had 16 points, five rebounds, five steals and two steals in a 76-63 win over UCLA.
He is the second multiple winner of the award joining three-time winner Carrick Felix from Arizona State
Washington nominated Abdul Gaddy this week.
Other players who drew consideration were: Arizona’s Mark Lyons, Colorado’s Spencer Dinwiddie, Oregon’s Carlos Emory, Stanford’s Dwight Powell, UCLA’s Shabazz Muhammad, Utah’s Jason Washburn, and Washington State’s Royce Woolridge.
