Duke first, Zags second on my top 25 ballot

Here’s the top 25 ballot I emailed to the Associated Press this morning.

1. Duke (27-4)

2. Gonzaga (30-2)

3. Indiana (26-5)

4. Georgetown (24-5)

5. Louisville (26-5)

6. Kansas (26-5)

7. Kansas State (25-6)

8. Michigan (25-6)

9. Miami (24-6)

10. Michigan State (24-7)

11. Ohio State (23-7)

12. Marquette (23-7)

13. Florida (24-6)

14. Oklahoma State (23-7)

15. Arizona (24-6)

16. New Mexico (26-5)

17. Syracuse (23-8)

18. Saint Louis (24-6)

19. Pittsburgh (24-7)

20. UCLA (23-8)

21. Memphis (27-4)

22. VCU (24-7)

23. Notre Dame (23-8)

24. Wisconsin (20-10)

25. Saint Mary’s (27-5)

NOTE — Nearly kept Indiana in the top spot after going on the road and securing the Big Ten regular-season title with a win at Michigan. However, the Hoosiers lost at home last week. Meanwhile Duke destroyed in-state rival North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. and moved to first on my list. Gonzaga, which is No. 1 in the national polls, had no trouble advancing to the WCC tourney finals and climbed to second on my ballot. Three teams off the list this week (California, Oregon and Louisiana Tech), which made room for Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Saint Mary’s. Also considered: Butler, Colorado State and Belmont.
