Washington State live game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 64-62 in a nail biter. Simmons hits the game-winner. Motum misses a three-pointer with three seconds left.

ALL SQUARE — UW 62-62, 2:44.

WOW — Huskies are blowing out the Cougars. UW 50-31, 14:54.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Good half for the Huskies.

They haven’t done a great job defending Motum who has 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting, but then you had to expect he would have a breakout performance. UW has done a nice job shutting down everyone else who has 11 points. That’s been the key to the game.

Meanwhile, seven Huskies have scored, including Suggs who has 13 points.

Washington is 12 of 26 from the field (46.2 percent), 5 of 11 on three-pointers and 7 of 10 on free throws. The Cougars are 3 of 12 on three-pointers.

The Huskies have committed just five turnovers that have resulted in two points.

The key for Washington in the second half is more of the same. Keep Motum off the line and force him to make tough shots. If he makes them, you have to live with that. But contain everyone else and don’t let WSU get going on three-pointers.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — UW 36-25.

TRAP — Nice move by Bone. WSU trapping Gaddy at top of key off of screens. Huskies need to adjust. UW 31-22, 3:29.

GOOD START — Wilcox and Suggs both hit a three-pointer on their first shots, which is a good sign for the Huskies. Simmons has a putback and Kemp has scored in the low post. Meanwhile, the Cougars are struggling to find any offense other than Motum. UW 12-5, 15:38.

ZONE — Washington starts game in a zone. That’s a twist. Cougars weren’t ready early, but Motum has hit two jumpers. UW 7-5, 17:10.

STARTING LINEUPS — No change for UW: Abdul Gaddy, Azia N’Diaye, Scott Suggs, C.J. Wilcox and Shawn Kemp Jr. Huskies 5-6 with this lineup.

WSU: F Brock Motum, F D.J. Shelton, G Mike Ladd, G Royce Woolridge and G Dexter Kernich-Drew.

NO LACY — WSU’s DaVonte Lacy watched warmups on the court while standing with the help of crutches. A knee injury has ended his season.

FRIENDLY RIVALRY — Both coaching staffs are amicably talking on the sidelines. Despite the riff between the fans, there’s no animosity between the coaches.

PREGAME WARMUPS — The Huskies have a business look about them as they’re going through warmups. No smiles or jokes and very little chatter. Plenty of stone-faced glares.
