Huskies begin NIT at BYU
Thought I’d pass along the official National Tournament Bracket (click image to make larger) and a few links on the tourney.
— Here’s our story on C.J. Wilcox who returns home to rekindle basketball rivalries with BYU’s Tyler Haws. We also had this advance on Washington, which makes its seventh trip to the NIT.
— Haws told the Desert News: “We’re disappointed we’re not in the big (NCAA) tournament, but you take what you can get and you just want to keep playing basketball as long as you can.”
— BYU coach Dave Rose talked about the Wilcox-Haws relationship and told the Salt Lake Tribune: “That is an interesting storyline to the game. C.J. had a great high school career here in [Utah] County. I think a lot of our guys who played here know him. Obviously, him and Tyler are very close. And with his dad playing here, this will probably be a pretty special opportunity for him.”
— And here’ stories on UW’s first-round opponent BYU from the Salt Lake Tribune and Desert News.
— If the Huskies win tonight, they could face No. 2 Tennessee, which is disappointed about missing the NCAA tournament.
— Vols coach Cuonzo Martin told The Telegraph: “So we beat top 25 teams, four if I’m not mistaken. You beat top-50 teams, top-100 teams. Our résumé stacks up against the best when you’re talking about a bubble team, per se.”
— Defending NIT champion Stanford begins the tournament today with a home game against Stephen F. Austin.
— Arizona State starts the tourney Wednesday at home against Detroit.
