Black Friday links: Arizona has big New York showdown against Duke

Thought I’d pass along a few links.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON LINKS:

— Personally I think Nick Johnson is the best player at Arizona and he doesn’t get enough attention, but most of the nation will be focused on battle of top freshmen Aaron Gordon and Jabari Bird when the No. 4 Wildcats play No. 6 Duke today in the NIT Season Tip-Off finals at Madison Square Garden.

— Arizona coach Sean Miller told the Arizona Daily Star: “We have to play an excellent game but I know we’re capable of doing that. But they’re a very good team, they’re the type of team that’s competing for the national championship, and I think we’ll learn a lot about where we are.”

— No. 19 UCLA hasn’t wavered from the script through its first six games and Thursday was no different. The Bruins destroyed Nevada 105-84 with a diverse offense led by Jordan Adams, who had a game-high 21 points. Kyle Anderson, who is a triple double threat, finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Norman Powell and David Wear added 14 and 10 points respectively. This time, UCLA (6-0) also got a huge lift from the bench when Zach LaVine scored 21 points.

— In a matchup of two potential All-Americans, Doug McDermott scored 27 points to lead No. 20 Creighton to an 88-60 win over Jahii Carson and Arizona State. Carson finished with 15 points, four assists and four rebounds.

DaVonte Lacy notched 26 points – the third time he’s scored 20 or more – but Washington State dropped its third straight game in a 76-69 loss to Butler in the first round of the Old Spice Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

— Got the feeling new USC coach Andy Enfield is still trying to figure out just what exactly he has in this season. The Trojans never led in a 94-79 defeat to Villanova. Omar Oraby (five points and four rebounds) was a non-factor for USC (4-2). Byron Wesley needed 15 shots to score 15 points and Pe’Shon Howard scored a season-high 23 points.

— UTEP coach Tim Floyd said his dustup with Enfield is over.
