Morning links: Tony Wroten’s buzzer beaters

In the second straight game, former Washington star Tony Wroten Jr. nailed a 3/4 court buzzer-beater at the end of the third quarter. In Friday’s 112-98 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Philadelphia second-year guard finished with 16 points, including a jaw-dropping 71-foot rainbow three-pointer from the top of the key on the opposite end of the court. On Wednesday, Wroten nailed a 67-foot shot from the opposite free throw line during a 114-108 loss to Boston. (Video highlights below) He had 18 points and four assists off the bench.

SATURDAY MORNING LINKS:

— Arizona sophomore forward Brandon Ashley, who suffered a season-ending knee injury, will likely return next season. Before the injury, he was considered a NBA draft prospect.

— Four-star prospect Parker Jackson-Cartwright, who signed with Arizona, admitted academic fraud and dropped out of withdrew from school at Los Angeles Loyola High on Friday. He’s expected to enroll in another high school and plans to play the 2014-15 season with the Wildcats.

— Oregon is approaching Saturday’s game at Arizona State as a must-win situation. Heck, almost every game is a must-win for the Ducks’ whose NCAA tournament hopes are on life support.

— Washington State goes for the regular-season series sweep when it plays today at Utah.

— Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak asked the Utes to focus on rebounding and they complied Thursday against Washington.

— UCLA destroyed cross-town rival USC by 34 points in the first meeting. Saturday’s sequel figures to be more of the same.

— Oregon State gets an extra day to prepare for Sunday’s big game at No. 2 Arizona.
