Former UW player invited to Portsmouth Invitational Tournament

There’s no doubt Mark McLaughlin could have helped Washington the past two seasons.

The high-scoring, well-traveled guard spent four months with the Huskies in 2012 before both sides agreed to part ways for reasons that still remain somewhat murky.

But this much is clear, McLaughlin gets buckets.

At Central Washington, he led all Division II players this season in scoring while averaging 27.1 points. He averaged 22.8 points during the 2012-13 season.

McLaughlin, a senior, is the only D-II player who received an invitation to play at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament held April 16-19 in Portsmouth, VA.

The PIT is open to 64 of the nation’s top college basketball seniors. Since 1953 it’s been a showcase for players vying for the NBA, but in recent years most of the top PIT players tend to play in the NBA Development League or overseas.
