Former Washington star Isaiah Thomas thrilled fans at the Northwest Collegiate Summer League on Monday with a surprise appearance. However, it was another diminutive Husky guard who stole the show.
Jahmel Taylor scored 23 points while pairing with Thomas and UW center Gilles Dierickx and leading New Jersey to an 81-75 win over a Lakers team that comprised UW players Darin Johnson (18 points) and Mike Anderson (14). Former Seattle University guard D’Vonne Pickett Jr. also had 19 points and Desjuan Newton, who played at Robert Morris last season, had 18 for the Lakers.
Thomas finished with 10 points and spent most of the game making plays for others particularly, Taylor who converted three three-pointers in his season debut. Dierickx had eight points.
In other action, Andrew Andrews tallied 14 points to lead the Suns to a 56-52 win. Quevyn Winters, the Husky newcomer, had five points and SU center Jack Crook 10.
