Mike Montgomery joins Pac-12 Networks

After a Hall of Fame coaching career, legendary coach Mike Montgomery joins the Pac-12 Networks as a men's basketball analyst.

After an illustrious coaching career, Mike Montgomery joins the Pac-12 Networks as a men’s basketball analyst.

Legendary coach Mike Montgomery, who built a powerhouse at Stanford and resurrected California, is the newest addition to the Pac-12 Networks men’s basketball broadcasting team as an analyst.

Other analysts include: Dan Belluomini, Dan Dickau, Lamar Hurd, Don MacLean, Matt Muehlebac, Drew Shiller  and Bill Walton.

The play-by-play announcers are: Roxy Bernstein, Kevin Calabro, Rich Cellini, Spero Dedes, JB Long and Ted Robinson.

The Pac-12 Networks will cover 147 league games, including at least 15 Washington contests starting with the Nov. 6 exhibition opener against Saint Martin’s.

In addition Kevin O’Neil, who coached at USC and Arizona, will be a guest in-studio analyst alongside Montgomery during a Pac-12 media day special 10 a.m. Oct. 23.

When Montgomery retired in April few predicted a post-basketball career in broadcasting for the tight-lipped coach who would occasionally take playful jabs at the media during his 34 years on the sideline.

He spent six seasons at Cal where he compiled a 130-73 record (.640). The Golden Bears made four NCAA tournament appearances under Montgomery.

Prior to the Bears, he spent 18 years at Stanford where he guided the Cardinal to 12 NCAA tourneys, including the 1998 Final Four, 2001 Elite Eight and 1997 Sweet Sixteen. Stanford compiled a 393-167 (.702) record under Montgomery, who earned four Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors and was named Naismith Coach of the Year in 2000.

His lengthy career also included coaching stints with the University of Montana and the Golden State Warriors. With an overall record of 677-317 in college basketball, he is one of only 84 men’s coaches with 600 wins.
