Morning links: Gritty comeback win for Washington

Washington received its first real test of the 2014-15 season and the Huskies responded remarkably well down the stretch during an 80-70 victory over Long Beach State in the DirecTV Wooden Legacy semifinals.

There were so many stars for UW including Nigel Williams-Goss (21 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds), Mike Anderson (16 points), Robert Upshaw (12 points and seven blocks) and Andrew Andrews (10 points and two three-pointers in the final three minutes).

SATURDAY MORNING LINKS:

— Washington will face UTEP in the Wooden Legacy finals on Sunday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The Miners held off Xavier for a 77-73 win in Friday’s semifinals.  Forward Vince Hunter had 17 points and 12 rebounds for UTEP (4-0).

— No. 22 UCLA finished seventh in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament after posting an 88-76 win over Alabama-Birmingham. The Bruins were 1-2 in the tourney and they’re 5-2 this season.

— It seems as if Utah discovered a rising star in freshman center Jakob Poeltl, who had 24 points, 12 rebounds adn five blocks to lead the Utes’ to a 90-53 victory over North Dakota. Senior guard Delon Wright added 23 points.

— Washington State edged Rice for a 76-74 win in the Great Alaska Shootout.

— Washington will play in the 2015 Battle 4 Atlantis tournament and it looks as if the Huskeis will collect a nice payout for their appearance.
