Game report: No. 17 Washington 81, Eastern Washington 77

No. 17 WASHINGTON 81, EASTERN WASHINGTON 77

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Sophomore center Robert Upshaw scored a team-high 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field. He connected on just 5 of 14 free throws. Upshaw also had a season-high nine rebounds  and six blocks in 26 minutes off the bench.

After flushing a dunk, Upshaw raced down the court and blocked Drew Brandon’s layup. EWU’s 7-1 center Jorge Frederik gathered the loose ball and went up for a putback that was rejected from behind by Nigel Williams-Goss.

TURNING POINT

Washington took the lead for good with 1:27 remaining when Upshaw redirected a missed shot into the basket that gave the Huskies a 71-70 lead. On the ensuing possession, the Eagles missed a three-pointer and Williams-Goss drained a three on the other end at the 1:16 mark.

BY THE NUMBERS

2 – Three-pointers from Darin Johnson this season before draining a clutch corner three with 53 seconds left.

9 – Missed free throws by Upshaw who had 15 attempts.

12 – Blocks by the Huskies. Jernard Jarreau had three. Eastern Washington had two.
