Game report: California 81, No. 21 Washington 75

GAME REPORT – California 81, No. 21 Washington 75.

PLAYER OF THE GAME – Sophomore guard Jordan Matthews finished with a season-high 31 points – one shy of his personal best. He drained five three-pointers.

TURNING POINT – Washington cut its 7-point deficit to two (61-59) with 4:40 left. However, Cal went on a 11-2 run to take a 72-61 lead at the 1:20 mark and put the game away.

QUOTABLE – “We missed a lot of shots. … In the second half, we couldn’t get it to drop.” – UW coach Lorenzo Romar.

BY THE NUMBERS:

3 – Three-pointers by Washington, which attempted 11.

4 – Turnovers by Cal.

24 – Combined free throw attempts by Matthews and Tyrone Wallace. UW had 21.

42 – Washington rebounds. The Huskies dominated the glass and outrebounded Cal by 13.

UP NEXT – Stanford (9-3), 7 p.m. Sunday at Maples Pavilion (Pac-12 Networks).
