Live game thread: Eastern Washington

IT’S OVER — UW 92-80.

IN CONTROL — Barring something crazy, the Huskies will escape with a win. UW 91-80, 1:40.

BACK ON TOP — Seiferth fouls out with 7:39 left. UW leads 74-70 with Nigel Williams-Goss going to the line for a FT.

5G — The Huskies are using five guards (the starters plus Anderson and Johnson). The little guys are cutting into Eastern’s lead. EWU 67-63, 10:27.

MOMENTUM TURNING — The Huskies are making a run. They’re attacking the basket and it’s working. Eastern has three players with four fouls, including Seiferth. UW 64-57, 11:40.

STILL TIME — If the Huskies are going to make a run, it better happen fairly quick. EWU 64-55, 12:31.

WHERE’S WILCOX? — This is the type of game where the Huskies have to force feed their superstar. Especially when you’re trailing by 11in the second half. Wilcox (nine points) had six attempts. Harvey (20 points) has 15. EWU 59-48, 15:09.

ANOTHER QUICK HOOK — Kemp is out after Jois blew right by him. Andreson is in. EWU 55-43, 17:24.

QUICK HOOK — Coach Lorenzo Romar yanked Andrews for apparently giving up an offensive rebound. Johnson is in. EWU 52-41, 18:30

SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Just a miserable half for Washington. The Huskies are being outplayed on both ends. They’re doing some good things when they attack the basket, but they’re awful in just about every other category. They’re 1 for 9 on three-pointers. The set offense just isn’t working. Wilcox is 2 for 5 and has six points. Blackwell (six points) is also ineffective.

But the biggest problem is Washington’s defense. For starters, they’re not getting back after missed shots. EWU has 10 fast-break points. The Eagles are running and beating the Huskies in transition. The Eagles are also getting good looks inside and outside. Harvey is putting on a show. He’s 7 for 13 from the floor, including 5 of 8 on three-pointers. He has 20 points, which is three shy of his personal best. Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes for 3o.

Eastern guards are also getting inside and creating havoc. Brandon has five assists, nine rebounds and eight points. The Eagles are attacking Blackwell and Kemp and getting around them with spin moves in the lane.

The lone bright spot for UW is Williams-Goss who has nine points. He’s torched EWU with strong drives and floaters over their bigs.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — Huskies trail 48-39. Harvey has 20 points for EWU. Williams-Goss leads UW with nine.

UW alumni basketball event game thread

DUNK CONTEST — First round: Gant 44, Bryan-Amaning 42, Holiday and Ross 47.

Second round: Gant 50, MBA 48, Holiday 45 and Ross 50.

Ross struggles to get complete a dunk in the finals against Gant who made his first attempt. In a fan vote on twitter, Gant is the upset winner. When presented the trophy, he pretended to breakdown and cry.

IT’S OVER — Thomas’ Purple team wins 107-103. Thomas is favored to win the MVP award.

PLAYER-COACH — Dentmon went to check in, but Thomas didn’t want to leave the floor forcing Wilkens to call a timeout. After the break, Dentmon returned to the bench. Purple 106-103, 8.0.

LAST GASP — Simmons drains a three. Purple is up 102-98 with 1:25 left. Haven’t seen much of Robinson. Maybe he’s saving energy for post-game slam dunk contest.

WHAT WAS THAT? — Pondexter attempted to flush over Hawes. However, the big guy got some of the ball and a lot of the body as Pondexer fell hard. Purple 102-95.

DOWN THE STRETCH — Just 4:55 left. It’s starting to approach that time in every celebrity game when players begin to pick up the play. Not sure if we’ll see that today. Purple has been in control lately. Thomas’ squad leads 94-89.

ONCE MORE WITH FEELING — During a timeout, Thomas re-enacts his infamous ‘Cold-Blooded” shot. The crowd went crazy. Purple 83-80, 9:12.

MVP CANDIDATES — Thomas has 23 and Wroten 17. Pondexter’s numbers are creeping up. He has 10. Conroy is all over the place with nine points, 10 assists, eight rebounds, nine turnovers and three steals. Hawes has 18 and Simmons 17.

ALL SQUARE — Not sure if it’s a surprise or not, but the game is tied 77-77 with 12:35 left.

SECOND HALF — Same starters. More of the same. A few dunks. Lots of threes. It was interesting to see Robinson talk to Wroten on the court. It looked as if Robinson was giving him advice on three-point shooting. Purple 76-75.

THREE-POINT CONTEST — Participants (in order): Pondexter, Robinson, Dentmon, Simmons and Appleby. Pondexter leads off and finishes with 12. Same score for Robinson. Dentmon tallies 15. Simmons has 12 and Appleby 10. Dentmon wins and hoists the big silver trophy above his head.

HALFTIME STATS — Thomas and Wroten lead all scorers with 15. Hawes has 14 and Simmons 11. Conroy is working on a quadruple double. He has seven points, seven rebounds, seven assists and eight turnovers.

Oregon live game thread

IT’S OVER — Oregon wins 80-77.

KAZEMI — This is just about over. Kazemi flushed a dunk. UO 72-65.

OT — Wilcox got the ball poked away on final possession. UW 64-64.

ALL SQUARE — UW 60-60, 3:24.

GETTING GOOD — Oregon is making a little run. UW 58-57, 4:43.

SURGING  — UW 52-48, 9:28.

BACK ON TOP — The Huskies are making a point to go inside. N’Diaye has been hot and cold. He whiffed on a layup, airballed a free throw and hit all net on another freebie. Then he sank a difficult layup in traffic to put UW ahead 44-43 with 15:50 left.

SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Not sure how much Washington is going to get inside from its big guys, which puts more pressure on Suggs and Wilcox to keep firing. They have to score or else Oregon could run away with this one.

The Ducks do a slightly better job of creating points inside for their big guys. They cut to the basket. They force the action. Woods is 3 of 5 at free throw line. Singler is 4 of 5 from the field. Both have nine points. And Dotson leads all scorers with 13.

Wilcox looks fantastic offensively. He’s had one bad shot while connecting on 4 of 6 for 12 points. Suggs has 10, but hasn’t scored in awhile.

No other UW player has more than four points.

Washington has more turnovers (seven) than assists (six), which is never good. The Huskies also have more rebounds (16-13) than Oregon.

HALFTIME — Oregon 39-34.

Washington State live game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 64-62 in a nail biter. Simmons hits the game-winner. Motum misses a three-pointer with three seconds left.

ALL SQUARE — UW 62-62, 2:44.

WOW — Huskies are blowing out the Cougars. UW 50-31, 14:54.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Good half for the Huskies.

They haven’t done a great job defending Motum who has 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting, but then you had to expect he would have a breakout performance. UW has done a nice job shutting down everyone else who has 11 points. That’s been the key to the game.

Meanwhile, seven Huskies have scored, including Suggs who has 13 points.

Washington is 12 of 26 from the field (46.2 percent), 5 of 11 on three-pointers and 7 of 10 on free throws. The Cougars are 3 of 12 on three-pointers.

The Huskies have committed just five turnovers that have resulted in two points.

The key for Washington in the second half is more of the same. Keep Motum off the line and force him to make tough shots. If he makes them, you have to live with that. But contain everyone else and don’t let WSU get going on three-pointers.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — UW 36-25.

UCLA live game thread

IT’S OVER — UCLA 61-54.

GOOD MOVE — On UW’s next possession, Kemp flushed an alley-oop dunk on a pass from Andrews. UCLA 57-54, 1:03.

N’DIAYE BENCHED — N’Diaye missed a pass from Gaddy. He’s out. Kemp is in. UCLA 57-52, 1:14.

HOWLAND STEAMING — During the break, Howland came out to the half court line to say something to the official. Not sure what he’s upset about. Meanwhile, N’Diaye needs to slow down at the rim. He’s blown at least three point-blank chances because he’s moving way too fast. Wilcox had a three-point rim out that would have given UW a seven-point lead. UW 52-52, 3:37.

WOW — N’Diaye went airborne for a block on Adams before crashing to the floor. He’s hunched over and stalking for blocks like a Senegalese warrior. UW 52-52, 4:13.

FACES IN THE CROWD — Sounds FC coach Sigi Schmid and Sonics icon Slick Watts are in the building. Uw 50-47, 6:25.

GETTING CRAZY IN HERE — N’Diaye got a big block on Powell that led to Suggs’ layup. On the next possession, Adams air balled a three-pointer and the fans exploded. UW 47-45, 7:56.

RUNNING — The second half got stagnant there for awhile. Just bad basketball. Too many turnovers and fouls. Gaddy drained an open jumper, the Huskies forced a turnover and Andrews made a fast break layup. UW 45-45, 8:55.

AWFUL CALL — It’s been written too much by me this season, but I absolutely hate the block/charge call. Refs never get it right. This time they blew it when Wilcox picked up an offensive foul after Wear flopped. You can’t reward bad plays like that. UCLA 44-41, 11:36.

TOO LOUD — During a timeout, it looks as if Howland and his assistants wanted to retreat to the opposite sideline to get away from the Dawg Pack. Howland is clearly annoyed. UCLA 40-36, 14:27.

STRANGE DECISION — Romar told Suggs and Wilcox to switch players and Muhammad promptly backed Wilcox into the post for a short jumper. On the next possession, Adams scored over Suggs. Just when you thought the Huskies needed a timeout, Suggs drained a three-pointer. UCLA 40-36, 15:46.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Entertaining first half.

The Huskies have done a nice job defensively on Muhammad who has seven points on 3-for-7 shooting. Travis Wear has hurt Washington with mid-range jumpers and putbacks.

Kemp has eight points and he’s doing a nice job in the low post of making himself available and finishing plays when the guards drive. Suggs is still on fire. He’s made 3 of 4 shots and has seven points. He should shoot more. Wilcox has eight points and is 3 of 8 from the field.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — UW 31-30.

USC live game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 65-57.

NO, NO … YES — Andrews drilled a three-pointer that didn’t look like a good shot when it left his hands. UW 61-51, 1:17.

STILL ANYONE’S GAME — JJ received a big ovation as he left the court. He has a career-high 12 points. UW 54-48, 3:13.

GLASS WORK — The Huskies lead the rebounding battle 41-25. UW 43-41, 7:58.

JJ SHINES — Jarreau has six points and he’s playing nice defense. UW 37-37, 13:19.

MISSED CALL — Romar storms up and down the court after refs miss an obvious kick from Terrell. USC 35-33, 16:05.

SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Despite the score, that was a pretty good half for the Huskies. They  didn’t play their best, but they’re tied at the break. Not bad. If Washington can get control of Terrell, it would have an easier time in the second half. He’s got 12 points and he’s the only one that’s really been a threat.

In the previous game, Washington received 26 points from Wilcox and Suggs. Tonight, the Huskies have spread the points between eight players. No one has more than Suggs’ 7. Wilcox had five. Simmons and Jarreau each have four.

The Huskies need to do a better job at the free throw line where they are 0 for 4. USC is 7 for 8. Can’t have that kind of disparity, especially at home. Washington has done a fantastic job on the glass. It leads 23-16 in rebounds.

It’s vital UW continues to harass Fontan to disrupt USC’s offense and force Terrell to play a 1-on-1 on the perimeter.

Fontan is clearly bothered by the hand injury. He’s just not effective offensively.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — UW 28-28.

Washington State live game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 72-68.

WHAT WAS THAT? — Not sure what Gaddy or Wilcox was thinking on the last play. Clearly it was some miscommunication. Gaddy’s pass sailed long and out of bounds. No time went off the clock. If Huskies can avoid any more miscues, they might win this game. UW 68-63, 42.5 seconds.

SUGGS TIME — Suggs is taking over much like he did the first time UW played WSU. He’s calling for the ball and knocking down big shots, including a three-pointer at the top of the key that put the Huskies ahead 60-57. He also barreled into the lane and drew a foul. He made both free throws. UW 62-57, 3:18.

UW LEADS — Gaddy sank a floater over Lacy to give UW a 55-54 lead with 6:32 left.

ALL SQUARE — Simmons hit a desperation jumper as the shot clock expired. UW-53-53, 6:45.

STILL ANYONE’S GAME — The Cougars took the lead early in the second half, but the Huskies have stayed within striking distance. WSU 53-50, 7:45.

GREAT SCOTT — Thanks to a nice pass from Jarreau, Suggs got a clean look at a three-pointer and drained the shot to bring the fans to their feet. He’s got 16 points, which ties the most he’s had this season since scoring a career best 24 on Dec. 13 against Seattle University. WSU 47-46, 13:26.

MORE FACES IN THE CROWD — Former Huskies Ryan Appleby, Tyreese Breshers and Donald Watts Jr. are sitting in the stands.

BEAUTIFUL MOVE — Suggs got Lacy in the air with a pump fake then drew a foul after making a short jumper on the baseline. He missed the ensuing free throw. WSU 43-39, 16:57.

TURNING POINT? — N’Diaye picked up a flagrant I foul for elbowing Motum in the neck. Motum hit both free throws. Kernich-Drew drained a three-pointer. WSU 43-35, 18:10.

SECOND HALF — UW keeps Simmons in the lineup in place of Kemp. Same starters for WSU. WSU 38-35, 18:56.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Impressive start for both teams.

Wilcox and Suggs are off to a good start and both have nine points. The Huskies are shooting 56 percent from the field.

Washington did a nice job shutting down Motum after he scored five quick points. However, the Cougars find alternative scorers in Lacy and WooWooldridge.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — Gaddy eluded Shelton and converted an acrobatic layup at the buzzer to give UW a 34-32 lead at intermission.

Arizona State live game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 68-59

TIMEOUT WASHINGTON — Felix dropped a three-pointer, which caused the fans to explode out of their seats and prompted Romar to call timeout. UW 57-52, 6:26.

COMPOSURE — The Huskies need to stay calm and remain aggressive. The fans are into it. UW has to weather this storm. UW 47-55, 7:50.

HARD SCREENS — Andrews is having a difficult time staying with Gordon. He’s out of the game and Suggs is back in. Gordon scored on  a baseline jumper. Eric Jacobsen sets really good screens. UW 53-43, 9:18.

IN CONTROL — UW 49-37, 11:54.

CONTORTIONIST — Andrews dribbled left and dribbled right around ASU big men for difficult layups. UW 49-37, 12:28.

LARGEST LEAD — The Huskies are in control of the game. Haven’t seen this in awhile. Washington has a good defensive plan and it’s executing it. The Huskies have kept Carson out of the lane and everyone else hasn’t been a factor. UW 43-35, 15:38.

FOUL TROUBLE — Felix has three fouls. He’s staying in the game. The Huskies should go at him. UW 39-32, 16:54.

SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams. Suggs came out firing and hitting. He has 13 points. Cason looks like he hurt his leg. He’s out of the game. UW 37-32, 17:31.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Amazing feat for the Huskies to lead 32-28 at halftime with Wilcox struggling offensively. He’s scoreless and 0 for 6 from the field. However, Suggs has picked up the slack. He has 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting.

Suggs took a hard spill just before halftime and walked off the court slowly holding his back. He can’t slow down. The Huskies will need more of his scoring in the second half. Suggs has to remain aggressive.

Gaddy has five points while N’Diaye, Kemp and Simmons each have four. UW is shooting 48.3 percent from the field.

The Huskies are winning because they’ve taken five more shots than ASU. They’re also winning the rebounding battle 19-10.

Arizona live game thread

IT’S OVER — Arizona 70-52.

RESERVES — Hikeem Stewart and Martin Breunig are in the game. UA 68-48.

HEADING FOR THE EXITS — If you’re still with us, this one is just about over. A few fans are walking out trying to beat the traffic. It’s an understatement, but nothing has gone right for Washington in the second half. UA 65-46, 2:37.

DOWN 20 — UA 52-32, 11:21.

GET BACK — The Wildcats are running every chance they get. On the last possession, Wilcox missed a three-pointer which sparked a fast break that ended with Johnson flying in for a layup. UA 44-29, 15:51.

SLIPPING AWAY — Johnson flushed a dunk off of a feed from Lyons. UA 42-29, 16:24.

FOUL TROUBLE — N’Diaye picked up his fourth foul. He’s out. Jarreau is in. UA 40-27, 17:39.

COMMISH — Talked to Pac-12 Commish Larry Scott at halftime. He said sales for Pac-12 Tournament are going well. Arizona has sold out its allotment of 1,200 tickets. Scott moved to smaller MGM Grand Arena in hopes of creating a better atmosphere than Staples Center. Also touched on Cal coach Mike Montgomery’s reprimand from the conference. Scott took into account Montgomery’s history and how Allen Crabbe handled the situation. Said he didn’t want to make a bad situation worse with a suspension.

SECOND HALF — Slow start for Huskies who trail 39-27 with 18:14 left.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Washington led 14-10 before Lyons took over, scored eight points and gave Arizona an 18-16 lead. The Huskies did well to hang around, but things turned late in the half. Arizona got the benefit of close calls. The N’Diaye-Parrom play sapped some energy from UW.

Wilcox has seven points and two fouls. Kemp has five points and three rebounds. And N’Diaye has three fouls.

Hill has 14 points and Lyons 12.

Both teams are shooting 35 percent.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — Arizona 33-25.

Oregon State live game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 72-62.

GETTING IGHT — UW 63-57, 1:17.

BIGGEST LEAD — The Huskies are on an 8-2 run. They lead 63-54, 3:34.

FOUL TROUBLE — Jarreau has four fouls, Simmons and N’Diaye each have three. uW 59-54, 4:37.

GOOD OMEN — Wilcox has 18 points, which is a good sign for the Huskies. They’re 10-4 when he gets at least 18 points and 3-8 when he doesn’t. UW 53-52, 7:28.

BENCH CONTRIBUTIONS — This is Jernard’s best game in a long time. He has six points and on the last play, he intercepted a, OSU pass. Clearly he’s much better in fast-paced games where he can get out and run and use his length to disrupt offenses. He also has five rebounds. UW 53-49, 9:18.

OH MY — Gaddy nearly brought the house down with a putback dunk attempt that bounced out. Didn’t think he could soar that high anymore. Kemp and Collier also flushed jams. Things are heating up. UW 49-45, 12:52.

BETTER FLOW — The Huskies are executing offensively much better than any other time in the game. Kemp has a layup and a short jumper. Gaddy drove for a short jumper. Wilcox rattled in a three. And N’Diaye sank a hook. UW 43-39, 15:27.

SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Not a whole lot of energy on the floor or in the stands. There’s some good action out there, but the game doesn’t have much flow. The turnovers may have something to do with that. Washington has 13 and is on pace for 26. Wow. Oregon State has seven. The 20 TOs has overshadowed some really nice plays by Wilcox, Nelson and Starks who are bombing away from long range.

There’s been some fantastic dunks as well from Jernard, Collier and Moreland.

Otherwise, it feels as if both teams are trying to figure out how to deal with the other team’s changing defenses. OSU is playing zone and it’s kept UW out of the middle. The Huskies are trying to go inside, but N’Diaye has five turnovers while trying to catch passes and making dribbling mistakes. So he’s not a good option. Wonder if Romar will try Kemp inside.

Even still, the Huskies are shooting 48.1 percent from the floor.

If not for Wilcox, the Huskies wouldn’t stand a chance. He has 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting. He’s also 3 of 4 on free throws.

Washington is also doing and outstanding job rebounding and has a 21-10 advantage.

Burton did his damage early and has 10 points. Nelso has seven and three assists.

HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — Oregon State 34-32.
