Guess the UW Score contest – Albany

Nice start to the season for the Guess the UW Score contest. Apologies for not giving folks advance warning and reminding people to submit picks before the start of the game.
I’ll also try and post earlier in the day to allow more time to enter predictions.
On Sunday, Themanlol206 posted at 5 p.m. and just made the cutoff, which was a good thing because his 85-67 prediction was the closest to Washington’s 85-63 victory over Loyola Maryland. Good job. Way to get things started.
Contact me privately via twitter or email (pallen@seattletimes.com) to collect your prize.
Alright let’s move on.

Prediction: Picked to finish fourth in the America East Conference by the league’s coaches.
Series: This is the first meeting between Washington and Albany.
Previous game: Lost 82-60 at No. 4 Ohio State on Sunday.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
— Senior guard Mike Black (above, right) is the kind of player that usually gives Washington fits. He’s 6 feet and exceptionally quick. He’s a slasher, who can also step back behind the arc and hit the three. This season, he’s 4 for 11 on three-pointers. Black leads Albany with a 17.5 scoring average and he tallied 20 against Ohio State in the last outing. His primary role was being a playmaker in previous season. He ranks 12th on the school’s all-time assists list with 304. However, this year the Great Danes need him to score and he’s looking to get points.
Black is a four-year starter who has played in 95 of 100 games during his career. He’s started 61 consecutive games dating back to Nov. 28, 2010.
Black was picked as one of the six members to the preseason All-Conference first team. He’s the conference’s active leading scorer (1,024) and assist man (299). He averaged 13.4 points and 4.3 assists per game last season
— Seems like every mid-major has at least one outstanding shooter and the guy for Albany is fifth-year senior Jacob Iati, who shot a team-best 45.6 percent (36-79) from the three-point line last season. Against Ohio State, he was 1 for 5 on treys. However, he got to the line and was 6-6 at the charity stripe en route to 13 points. At 5-10 and 165 pounds, Iati is the smallest player on the roster.
