Final: Royals 11, Mariners 3

The benches are pretty much emptied by now. The Mariners didn’t get a hit in the seventh inning, either, leaving them stuck at six, a number they amassed after four innings. Guess the first inning offense was a tease.
Jim Parque relieved Green in the bottom of the seventh. Things did not get better for the Mariners. With two on and Billy Butler up, Parque left a nice offering high in the strike zone. Butler hit the ball, and it just kept going. Over the fencer in left-center field. Over the girls in bikinis on the grass in center field. Over the grass entirely. And onto the pavement that runs around the park. Heck, it could still be bouncing for all we know. The Royals lead went from large to obese at 11-2. The game ended 11-3 after the Mariners scored once — Jose Lopez off a hit by Jeremy Reed — in the top of the ninth.
The result should look a bit familiar to Mariners fans. Another loss that dropped the club to 1-7 in spring training. Of course, the Royals improved to 5-3, so that should give you a good idea of how important/meaningful records are in spring training.
What should concern Mariners fans are the struggles for both Jake Woods and Sean Green (three runs allowed in three innings). Even then, it’s early. No need to rush to judgments with the season still weeks away.
Hargrove wasn’t happy with his pitching — other than Washburn –and saved his most pointed comments for Campillo. Asked if Campillo took himself off the bubble, Hargrove said, “Today was not a good day for Campillo.”
