Final (in 10 innings): Rockies 6, Mariners 5

George Sherrill came in during the eighth inning. The Rockies hit him hard, and a single by Ryan Spilborghs scored another run and cut the Mariners lead to 4-3. Sherrill got revenge, though, picking Spilborghs off first base for the final out.
At that point, both teams had eight hits, but the Mariners managed an extra run.
Catching prospect Jeff Clement led off the bottom of the eighth for the Mariners, drawing a decent cheer from the crowd. He walked.
The Mariners regulars gave way to minor leaguers at the game’s end, and they blew another close one. The Mariners took a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning, then allowed four runs — while scoring one — the rest of the way to lose 6-5 in 10 innings.
Jeremy Reed, former starter, current backup, scored on a Bryan LaHair single to tie the game at 5 and force extra innings. Carlos Alvarado took the loss, but he was far from alone with bullpen struggles. Sherrill also allowed a run late, and Chris Reitsma allowed two home runs in another tough outing.
The Mariners now fall to 1-8 in Cactus League play, but manager Mike Hargrove vigorously defended his team afterward.
