Game update, after 7 innings: Mariners 4, Rockies 2

A couple of interesting things happened in the top of the fourth inning, after Cha Seung Baek relieved Weaver. Both involved Alexis Gomez.
The first was scary. Gomez lined a pitch sharply into foul territory on the first base side. The shot caught Rockies first base coach Glenallen Hill, a former Major Leaguer who played part of the 1998 season with the Mariners, near the left arm, on or near the elbow. Hill hopped around in great pain and left the field.
Gomez ended up popping into shallow center field. Yuniesky Betancourt lost the ball in the sun, then recovered to make a sliding catch. Just spend an inning watching Betancourt play sometime. Watch the way he moves, the speed and agility and grace. Few players can play defense like he does.
The Rockies scored again in the top of the fifth. Cory Sullivan doubled with two outs, then scored when Steve Finley punched a single into right field. Finley moved to second when Kenji Johjima lost his grip on a stolen base attempt and launched the ball 20 feet in the air.
Betancourt scored in the bottom of the seventh to give the Mariners a 4-2 lead. Woodinville native Matt Tuiasosopo also batted in the seventh inning. He singled, but Jose Lopez inexplicably went toward home and was thrown out.
