Diamondbacks 1, Mariners 0, top third

Here is today’s Seattle lineup:
————————-
7 Jeremy Reed, CF
16 Willie Bloomquist, 2B
2 Kenji Johjima, C
23 Ben Broussard, RF
12 Mike Morse, 1B
39 Tony Torcato, LF
1 Gookie Dawkins, 3B
10 Rey Ordonez, SS
36 Jeff Weaver, RHP
Weaver has had some trouble falling behind hitters early and paid for it in the first inning, yielding a leadoff, ground-ruled double to Alberto Callaspo (2-1 pitch), hitting Chris Young (2-0 pitch) and serving up a run-scoring double to Jerry Hairston. Weaver did a nice job getting out of a jam, with runners at second and third, with a popout and a flyout by Chris Snyder on a 2-0 pitch.
The Mariners led off the bottom of the first with singles by Ben Broussard and Mike Morse, but Tony Torcato grounded into a 4-6-3 double play and Gookie Dawkins grounded out to end the threat.
Weaver fell behind hitters some more in the second inning, allowing a one-out single on a 2-1 pitch, but then, after the runner was bunted to second, got a full-count groundout from Callaspo.

PUTZ THROWS, FEELS FINE

Mariners closer J.J. Putz played catch from 100 feet this morning in Peoria, advancing from the 75 feet of a day ago. He felt fine afterward and is a day ahead of schedule. But this all means about as much as you or me playing catch. The real test will be when Putz starts throwing off a mound without pain and does it against live hitters. We’re awaiting word on his next rehabilitation step.
