Diamondbacks 6, Mariners 1, bottom 5th

This is one outing Weaver will want to forget about as quickly as possible. He was due to go five innings today, but lasted only four and barely that as Arizona tagged him for two home runs in a five-run fourth. Weaver fell behind hitters for most of the day, despite rallying briefly with a pair of strikeouts to start the third inning.
But he fell behind the next hitter, Jerry Hairston, and walked him, before getting a flyout on a 2-1 pitch to end the inning.
The fourth was a disaster for Weaver, who walked the first hitter, gave up a full-count single to the next one and then got two quick outs to leave runners on first and second. But Weaver ran the count full on Alberto Callaspo, who lined the next pitch into right field for an Arizona run. Weaver landed a first-pitch strike on Chris Young, but the next one was belted over the center field fence for a three-run homer. The very next hitter, Stephen Drew, put a 2-0 pitch over the right field fence to make it 6-0.
Seattle got a run back on a Tony Torcato homer in the top of the fifth.
Weaver’s final line: 4 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP
Uuugggly!!!
Pretty sure the dry air in Arizona had something to do with a couple of the long balls here today. But the air didn’t make Weaver fall behind hitters all afternoon. He was missing his spots. Still having trouble with that leg action, I suspect. Will have to ask him about it.
