Rockies 4, Mariners 2, top 5th

Sorry folks, a little server trouble once again! Can’t wait to get back to Seattle…
Not a great day for baseball here, with winds whipping at 32 mph and gusting up to 44 mph. Since we’re in Tucson, which is smack dab in the middle of a desert, that means lots of sand whipping around.
Poor old Miguel Batista has been fighting the conditions all day and had done a great job getting out of jams until Colorado scored four runs in the third inning to erase a 2-0 lead for Seattle. Batista has already given up 10 hits and we’re only through four innings. Seven of those hits came in the third. Batista used a 5-2-3 double play grounder by Ryan Spilborghs to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the first. He also survived a one out double in the second inning by getting consecutive groundouts.
But it all caved in on him in the third, with two doubles and five singles putting the Rockies ahead.
Seattle scored a pair in the second inning when Yuniesky Betancourt tripled home Richie Sexson from first base. Yes, Sexson. He lashed a leadoff single to left, the hardest hit he’s managed in two weeks. Betancourt then came home on a groundout to the right side by Jose Lopez.
Here are the lineups:
Seattle
Ichiro CF
Adrian Beltre 3B
Jose Guillen RF
Raul Ibanez LF
Richie Sexson 1B
