Mariners 10, A’s 6, final in 10 innings

Make it five in a row for the Mariners, but manager Mike Hargorve was not amused afterwards. Hargrove was livid at the way his team played, giving up three unearned runs in the fourth inning by committing two of their three errors on the day, then blowing a 6-3 lead in the ninth.
Mariners pitcher Sean Green also failed to cover first base in the 10th inning, enabling the A’s to load the bases with two out before Seattle prevailed.
“Mentally today, we were absolutely not here, and that’s unacceptable,” Hargrove said. “That doesn’t cut it, plain and simple. We’ll talk about that a little more in-depth.”
It’s tough to tell whether this was better, or worse, than earlier this spring when the team was losing nearly every game. Seattle was losing those by a run or two each time and playing cleanly. This one? Pretty ugly, though the bats looked great and Jose Vidro kept on hitting, notching a two-run double in the ninth to give Seattle enough of a cushion not to lose the game in the bottom of the frame.
Raul Ibanez now has a team-leading five home runs and 16 RBI.
