Felix dodges sixth-inning bullet

Oakland nearly took the lead in the top of the inning as Travis Buck, pride and joy of Richland, Wa., tattooed the second pitch of the inning from Felix Hernandez and sent it screaming over Ichiro’s head in center. Buck motored in to second with a stand-up double, then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mark Ellis.
Hernandez took a huge step towards getting out of the inning by striking out Jason Kendall on a 2-2 fastball up at eye level. It was the third time on the day that Hernandez had struck Kendall out. Hernandez then got ahead, 0-2 in the count, on Shannon Stewart, before striking him out on a splitter in the dirt.
Make that nine strikeouts and counting for Hernandez. He’s at 75 pitches. Lots of fuel left in this rocket.
