Big bats looming

And a very good morning to you, “RB”, “Everett Fan”, “Lance” and even you, “Willmore” — where’d you go, anyway? Always fun having a 5:20 a.m. wakeup call so you can fly to Cleveland via Houston (don’t ask). The good news is, we’re flying Continental today, not that other airline that caused so many headaches during spring training.
So, the Mariners just took two of three from the A’s. Always a good thing. Not as good as it could have been, but good. One concern I have is that the A’s are not a team I’d want to brag about offensively and they did score 13 runs the final two games. Seattle scored eight in the middle game, which is why the M’s took the series, but what bothers me is that they now do have to play a team with an offense that scares folks.
That would be the Cleveland Indians, who just put up 20 in two games in Chicago against the White Sox. Here’s some possible good news for the M’s. Pretty clever nickname. Trouble is, the M’s have to make it to the ninth inning first. They’ll need better pitching than they got last night to do that, especially from Horacio Ramirez and Jeff Weaver.
One thing that might cool off the Cleveland bats is, well, Cleveland. They’re expecting temperatures in the high 20s with maybe some snow as the sun drops tomorrow. In Canada, we call that sub-zero temperatures. Good thing the metric system doesn’t apply here and it’s only the high 20s. Feel warmer already.
This will be a big weekend test for the new arms. Do I expect Jose Vidro to warm up to his new job there? No, I don’t. Vidro is trying to find ways to adapt to his new DH role. One of the biggest ways is keeping warm and loose between at-bats. The weather here in Seattle wasn’t the best way to do that. It won’t be great in Cleveland either. You have to give him a few weeks first. The guy knows how to hit. It’s only been three games. Raul Ibanez hasn’t been lighting up the scoreboard either and we all know what he can do.
On my way. Talk to you later on when I land. Keep the comments flowing in. I won’t mention that LA team right now. But they are still 3-0.
