GAME CALLED!

Mike Hargrove just saved his team from a loss because they have called this game off. The snow came back with a vengeance and officials got tired of waiting. No three-error game for Adrian Beltre, no loss for Horacio Ramirez, and no no-hitter for Paul Byrd. Game will be played as a day-night doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 10:05 a.m. (PDT). What a turn of events! Great news if you’re a Mariners fan.
RULES AND TOMORROW’S START TIMES
For all of you who have emailed in to ask, no, the new rules changes do not apply here. A game in only resumed in mid-course when it is official. This game was not an official five-inning affair.
Tomorrow night’s second game of the double-header starts at 7:05 p.m. (EDT), so 4:05 p.m. (PDT) and will be televised. Felix Hernandez goes in that one.
The day game is at 1:05 p.m. (EDT), or 10:05 a.m. (PDT) and has Jeff Weaver going as scheduled. Cleveland has yet to announce its starters.
Odd thing is, the snow has completely stopped. They are going crazy on talk-radio here right now. The fans (and announcers) cannot believe Hargrove got the game called. Hargrove said plate umpire Alfonso Marquez wasn’t listening to Jose Lopez when the latter complained he couldn’t see.
Lopez admitted to being “lucky” he got wood on the final pitch from Paul Byrd. He’d already signaled to the dugout before the pitch, Hargrove stormed out after the foul ball and held things up until crew chief Rick Reed intervened and called for the delay.
Adrian Beltre apparently could not feel his thumb after the first inning. The team tried everything it could, using heat pads and stimulators, but to no avail. Richie Sexson said it was “scary” playing the field because players would hear the crack of the bat and not know where the ball was going.
So, the Mariners catch a huge break here. What a day! What a night!
