Mariners blog

Daily coverage of the Mariners during the season and all year long.

Yuni makes it back

They just inserted Yuniesky Betancourt into the lineup, so apparently his flight made it in here on time. He’ll bat eighth, Jose Lopez ninth. Willie Bloomquist? Maybe next week, guy.
More weather updates: The snow has finally tapered off again and we’re still aiming for a 2:00 p.m. (PDT) start. They just pulled the tarp off the infield (UPDATE: cancel that — the snow came back and the tarp is back on.) The outfield also needs some work to remove the latest layer of snow, never mind this new stuff. Tomorrow’s game time, my sources now tell me, will also be changed, bumped up to 10:05 a.m. (PDT) in order to avoid this kind of mess tomorrow night.
That sound you hear is Jeff Weaver celebrating. So, if they get this one in, there’s one game at 10:05 a.m. (PDT) If this one gets called, we’ll have a doubleheader tomorrow, also starting at 10:05 a.m. That’s the unofficial word. When they confirm it, we’ll let you know.
UPDATE: 1:25 p.m. (PDT): Tarp is back off, snow has stopped (maybe it’s gotten too cold to snow). Let’s try this again.
POWER RANKINGS UP
Apparently, the folks at ESPN weren’t all that convinced by the Mariners taking two of three from the A’s. The good news? The 3-0 Pirates are ranked even worse than Seattle.
