Garciaparra gone, Rhodes has tear

A couple of tidbits of news while the world waits for the enormity of the Daisuke Matsuzaka-Ichiro confrontation at Fenway Park (I hear it’s a big deal in Norway).
First, the Michael Garciaparra era in Seattle is over. The Phillies claimed Garciaparra off waivers, which is not surprising in light of the fact that Phillies’ GM Pat Gillick was in charge of the Mariners when they drafted Garciaparra in the first round in 2001.
The Mariners designated Garciaparra for assignment on April 1 to clear room on their 40-man roster. In five minor-league seasons, he hit .267.
Secondly, and of more immediate concern to the Mariners, the news on left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes is bad
