Davis trade completed

Those of you worried about who the player-to-be-named in the Jason Davis deal would be, well, you don’t have to worry any longer. The M’s sent the Cleveland Indians a pitcher. No, it wasn’t Jeff Weaver. Nor was it Jorge Campillo. It was…are you ready for this? Gregorio Rosario.,
Gregorio Rosario! How could they? Gregorio Rosario! He was in my fantasy pool. My Dominican Summer League fantasy pool. The horror! You know what? I don’t even know whether the guy is a righty or a lefty. I could check but that would involve using more energy than should be required for this task.
Let’s just give you the basics. He’s an 18-year-old — a righty, I checked — who spent the past two seasons in the DSL. That’s all you have to know. Look, I’ve written baseball stories from the Dominican Republic and know all about how the prospect system and the DSL work. Yes, there are all kinds of hidden mound gems to be found down there if you’re willing to wait until 2013 for them to pan out. Sure, this Rosario kid was pretty good in that league and yeah, he could turn out to be the next Johan Santana. But it’s more likely he’ll turn into the next Johan Svendquist. What, you never heard of Johan Svendquist? That’s OK, neither have I. Kind of my point. Sorry if any of you lost sleep over the Davis thing. Turns out you shouldn’t have. As I mentioned a few days ago, Davis had seen his value hit an all-time low.
The Mariners spent most of their pre-stretching hour out on the field enjoying a game of “flip”. Hey, a team that playes together stays…oh, never mind. They enjoyed the warm weather. Hopefully, they will enjoy it more when it counts later on tonight.
