Big series, big blog additions

Getting ready for the middle game of this series. Manny Ramirez is out of the Red Sox lineup, so that’s a huge break for the Mariners. Ramirez is only 1-for-6 with three strikeouts lifetime against Felix Hernandez, but I’d say it’s too early to make much of those stats. Ramirez is slumping a little, down to 1-for-10 in his last three games, so he’s getting a rest.
I promised you some additions to this blog and we’ll try to implement them tonight. I want to bring you some audio clips of the pre-game interviews we do so you can hear for yourself what gets said. Today, you can download a clip of manager Mike Hargrove’s pre-game press gathering in the dugout. Hargrove talks about the pressures — he calls it “fear” — the Red Sox are playing with having built such a huge lead. A Boston writer asks him the question at the start of the clip, given how Hargrove faced similar situations while his Cleveland squad was running away with the AL Central in the 1990s. Also, there’s a clip of Eric O’Flaherty discussing the letter of intent he signed with Oregon State prior to turning professional and his reaction to their consecutive College World Series titles. Finally, here’s Chris Reitsma discussing the
slower rehab route he’s taken on his elbow this time around. Keep in mind, these aren’t scripted radio and television interviews. This is uncut stuff, a little tough to hear in places. It’s tough to tell the questioner’s voice from the subject at times. But we’re trying. We’re working on the audio quality to give you something better but it might take a few days. But I figured that, for now, it’s something to keep you busy while we await the games.
Here are tonight’s lineups:
