Broussard a new papa, Sexson starts

I’ve got to say, it’s gratifying to come back up from the clubhouse and see 52 comments on the blog. I haven’t had time to read them all, but I will. I’ll probably wait until tomorrow to answer some of the specific questions.
Here’s the lineup:
Mariners
Ichiro cf
Vidro DH
Guillen RF
Beltre 3B
Ibanez LF
Sexson 1B
Johjima c
Lopez 2B
Betancourt SS
Weaver P
Orioles
Roberts RF
Patterson CF
Markakis RF
Millar 1B
Tejada SS
Huff DH
Mora 3B
Hernandez C
Payton LF
Trachsel P
In case you’re wondering, Ben Broussard’s wife, Brenda, had a baby girl yesterday, and Ben flew home Monday morning (shortly after arriving on the team charter late Sunday night. Luckily for him, he arrived back in Seattle just in time to see the birth of Laynie Brooke. The stats: 20 inches; 7 pounds, 12 ounces).
He’ll be back in time for tomorrow’s game. I asked John McLaren if Broussard would have started against the right-handed Tracshel, and he said no, Sexson was slated to go anyway. He wants to get Sexson out of his slump, and he has good numbers against Trachsel (4-for-10; yes, small sample size).
I asked McLaren if he considered skipping Horacio Ramirez on the road, and he said no. “Truthfully, we need to get him going on the road. We need to get the team going on the road. If we want to get where we want to go, we have to do better on the road.”
That’s a nice philosophy, but if Ramirez gets shelled tomorrow by the Orioles, I don’t see how they can keep throwing him out there. He already has a 0-3 record and13.72 ERA on the road, with opponents hitting .439 off him. That’s a trend, I believe, and not a good one. I’ve never heard of a pitcher used exclusively at home, and it’s a lousy arrangement. I wouldn’t recommend it. If Ho_Ram continues to falter, it would behoove them to find a different starter, but I’m not sure who that would be. There’s no indication Cha Seung Baek will be ready soon, and the same retreads that were available at the trade deadline will be out there again in August.
Any bright ideas, anyone?
