Mariners blog

Daily coverage of the Mariners during the season and all year long.

A forgettable night

Not much to say about this embarassment of a game. The Mariners give up a dozen runs on 20 hits, 11 of the runs coming over the final three innings. Yes, we got to see all of Class AAA Tacoma finish things off and I liked the swing that Wladimir Balentien put on the ball.
Maybe they should just run this whole lineup out there tomorrow and see what happens, right? No, I was only joking. Don’t get all excited. Though I suspect some of you are excited for different reasons.
Like I said, the Mariners would do best to put this game behind them and focus on tomorrow night. But I can’t let that go without saying this: Carlos Garcia will be allowed off-the-hook given the final score, but he shouldn’t be. That was a terrible call he made in waving Adrian Beltre around. You just can’t do that in games that mean something like these. I’m afraid Garcia might be feeling the reverberations of that decision well after this campaign is done. At least as a third base coach, which ,as you remember, isn’t what he was brought here for.
But just a horrible judgement call by him tonight. The game might have gone a lot differently had the M’s put up a big inning there. We’ll never know. They’ll have another chance tomorrow night and have to make the most of it.
