Game thread, Sept. 7, Mariners vs. Yankees

Quite a contrast in the starting pitchers today. For the Mariners, you have Ryan Feierabend, trying to carve out his place in the major leagues, making his 16th career start, and fifth start of 2008. He came to the ballpark expecting to be a spectator, but was thrown into action when Carlos Silva couldn’t go because of back spasms.Feierabend is 0-2 with a 6.53 ERA in his four starts, and has never faced the Yankees.
Starting for the Yankees will be Mike Mussina, who is having a great rebound season at age 39 (17-7, 3.39 ERA). He is 267-151 in his career, and one of just 18 pitchers in history to be 115 games over .500. Twelve of them are in the Hall of Fame, and five aren’t eligible yet (Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, Pedro Martinez, and Mussina). The other is Bob Caruthers, who I admit I had never heard of. I had not been thinking of Mussina in terms of Fame until recently, but I’m starting to give it some serious thought. I’m leaning toward yes.
