Game thread, Mariners vs. Angels, 9-13

Here’s some of those promised quotes from Riggleman on the decision to play Lopez at first base.
“Basically, we’re trying to create a way to get Valbuena in there more, and not have Lopez DH. We’ve been working him out the last three days. It’s not much. It’s one of those things if he struggles over there, it’s on me. The thing you don’t want to do is embarrass a player by having him look awkward. If that happens, it will be my responosibly, not him.
“He was receptive to it. I said, look, we have to have your bat in there, but I want to see this kid play second base. He’s really handling it very well. He’s basically saying, if that’s what team needs me to do, that’s what we’ll do.
“Lopey’s established himself offensively in the last couple of years. We’re comfortable saying he’s part of our lineup for the future. Whether it plays out he plays some first base and primarily second, or all second base…. however it plays out, that remains to be seen with what happens over the winter. It gives us an option there, you know?”
There’s much more, but that’s the gist of it. Hey, the game’s started. Better get this posted.
