Mariners blog

Daily coverage of the Mariners during the season and all year long.

March 5, 2009 at 8:48 AM

Morning tidbits

Larry Stone here, filling in for Bob Condotta, who was filling in for Geoff Baker, who owns the place.
I was faced with a major dilemma this morning: Do I blog on my own Hot Stone League log, or Geoff’s Mariner blog? Perhaps I should invent the “Simul-blog” and post on both. I decided to post here (obviously), because this is where people are conditioned to come for their Mariners news. Not that I have much Mariners news at this moment, but that’s the theory. I’ll try to freshen the Hot Stone League when I get a chance.
Here’s the lineup for today’s game with the Angels, if that qualifies as news:
Angels
Chone Figgins 3B
Erick Aybar SS
Juan Rivera LF
Kendry Morales 1B
Mike Napoli DH
Howie Kendrick 2B
Jeff Mathis C
Terry Evans RF
Reggie Willits CF
Shane Loux RHP
Mariners
Franklin Gutierrez CF
Ronny Cedeno LF
Russell Branyan 1B
Wladimir Balentien RF
Chris Shelton DH
Matt Tuiasosopo 3B
Chris Woodward 2B
Jamie Burke C
Reegie Corona SS
Erik Bedard P
Walked into the clubhouse this morning, and it was like deja vu, seeing Ken Griffey in the same locker he used to inhabit in his previous Mariners’ life. I shot the breeze for awhile with Junior, who was in a very pleasant mood after making his Cactus League debut last night.
It’s amazing how much turnover there has been in the M’s clubhouse since last year. There were a lot of faces I didn’t recognize. That’s always the case early in spring training, because of all the minor-leaguers, but even moreso this year, especially with all the familiar players missing at the World Baseball Classic. I chatted with Mike Morse, who said he couldn’t believe the turnover, either. He pointed out that he was now one of the senior players on the team, having joined the organization in 2004.
I’ll have more later, after we meet with manager Don Wakamatsu. It’s great to be in the desert.
