A look at U.S. Cellular Field moments ago. They’ve taken the tarp off, so maybe that second weather front isn’t coming? Mike Sweeney is back in Seattle’s lineup, batting third against lefty John Danks.

Kenji Johjima has returned to the team’s training complex in Peoria, Ariz. in order to avoid the cooler weather up here. Johjima was to catch a bullpen session today and then possibly get into a minor league game of some sort down there before hoping to be re-activated by the club on Friday. He’s nursing that pulled hamstring.
By the way, Endy Chavez got word today that he’s received his Green Card for permanent residency in the U.S. Chavez is from Venezuela, though he owns a house in Queens, NY and had been staying here on a work visa.
When teammate Sweeney got word of it, he had the entire clubhouse stop what they are doing and gather round. Sweeney seems to be under the impression Chavez just became a citizen, which he isn’t. But his intent was in the right place. Here’s what he said, standing in the center of the clubhouse, teammates gathering around.
“Hey guys, we just found out that Endy has become an American citizen today,” Sweeney said. “He’s no longer Latino, he’s from the USA now!”
“Hey, gringo!” a couple of the Latin American players yelled out, clapping and laughing before the entire team joined in with applause and cheers.
“Everybody, a moment of silence,” Sweeney said. “Give him a good moment of silence, give him a good one.”
The players actually quietened down. Somebody’s cellphone was going off in the background, so Carlos Silva shouted “Silence!” and the room broke into a dead quiet. After a few moments, Silva said: “Carry on, men!”
And the applause resumed.
Chavez said he’d filled out the paperwork last year and received a text message today that it had been approved. He was clearly moved by the experience.
“I don’t really want to talk about it yet,” he said. “I want to make sure I have it in my hands first.”
