No discussion yet on Carlos Silva

Somewhat lost in Friday night’s walk-off win was another disappointing start by starter Carlos Silva, who went just 3 2/3 innings, allowing six earned runs. Manager Don Wakamatsu was not interested in a Silva postmortem on Friday night, and Saturday he said there had not been any discussions about what to do with the starter, who has gotten past the fifth inning just once in five starts and whose ERA has hit 7.36.
“We’ve got a little bit of time,” Wakamatsu said. “Obviously he’s a guy that we need for to step up into that role, to be a lot of value to this club. There’s got to be some improvement on his part, some adjustments made.”
-Wakamatsu had initially scheduled Kenji Johjima to catch Saturday, with Rob Johnson catching Chris Jakubauskas on Sunday, but after Friday’s long, high-scoring game, the manager opted to start Johnson today and have Johjima catch tomorrow.
-The Athletics made a roster move Sunday, placing right-handed reliever Santiago Casilla on the disabled list with a sprained right knee. Lefthander Gio Gonzalez was recalled from Sacramento.
-Lastly, as the ever-hard-working Bob Condotta pointed out yesterday, today is “Turn back the clock night,” with the clock turned back all the way to 1939. Seattle will wear the uniforms of the Seattle Rainiers, and Oakland will wear the old Oakland Oaks uniforms.
“Griffey keeps complaining that he has to wear short pants,” Wakamatsu joked.
